Optimus Maximus goes on pre Order today !!!!!!

a keyboard that costs over $1000 and looks very very cheap...I mean the features are cool (if they actually work and don't break in a short time). The actual keyboard looks cheap and the keys look cheap. It also looks very uncomfortable, and the keys look like a kid's keyboard, stick up a bit too much and too flat, no ergonomics. I'm also wondering if the software actually works as advertised...

It has been in devlopment for over a yr, i would think they wouldn't sell it if it didn't work, if you want something diff you can get the mini which is a 3 button version for like 100bucks or something..

People sell stuff that doesn't work all the time. Ever try Windows lol.

No I am kidding, but seriously. Just because it's out to market soonish doesn't mean it's 100% ready. Remember that AMD/ATI just released a product that has been in development for almost a year and it had a horrific launch (as far as numbers are concerned).

Jeez, and I thought the Logitech G15 and DiNovo were high end...

I could never own a keyboard that expensive. I tend to eat at my computer, so I have to disassemble and clean my keyboard and mouse every once in a while. If I accidentally break them in the middle of doing it, no big loss. But a $1000 keyboard...I'd be scared just to pound on the keys too hard.

That's why I said it looks cheap...it looks ready to break. Not for the gamer like me.

I really like the idea of being able to change the symbols on your keys on the fly... but the keyboard looks really tacky, like cmdrdredd said. The keys look like the ones you get with modern OEM systems (the kind of keyboard that can only handle 3 keys at once). They may be good, but in my opinion, the IBM "clicking" keyboards are the best. There is just no comparison.
Model T forever!

I think it is pretty sweet to be able to program the visual display of what function any given key will perform...but given that ~95% of the keys will simply never change their function (how likely is it that you are going to move your "q" key around on the keyboard?) it would have been nice if the panel of side keys on the left were expanded to include more keys for assigning to shortcuts and macros and so forth.

(yes I have a G15 with the 18 generic keys, and yes I hate the fact that I forget sometimes what key "G12" is hotlinked too..."

stupid idea IMO. i wouldn't pay more than $100 for it.

I think its a good idea, but in its current form will never be worthwhile.

Obviously the price is way out of most people's range, and even if you did have that kind of money I honestly would be hard pressed to spend it on this. I wouldn't be surprised if you could call up Logitech and have them custom make board for you that would probably end up being better.

I really don't like that it requires its own power cable. I know that it likely can't get enough from just USB, but surely there could have been some type of an alternative. Maybe a lithium ion rechargable or something.

The last thing is I wonder how the keys and just overall feel of it is. If its not good and solid then I wouldn't want it at any price (well not quite true).

Oh, I guess I also forgot the software. If it sucks then there's no point to the board anyways as it would severely limit its real usefulness.

In short, I'll wait for Logitech, Microsoft, and Apple to get their versions out. I have a feeling it'll be a few years though.

There is one huge overriding issue with this keyboard, how many people actually have to look at their keyboard all the time.

I know I'm not the best typist in the world but I don't really need to look at the keys when I type, and cewrtainly not during gaming, which from the way I see it the keyboard serves much more purpose.

However as a style statement I think it is awesome, I'll have to wait for a lottery win though before I get one.
