Many cable companies cap the upload speeds at 128kbps (16KBps) or 256kbps (32KBps) because most people on broadband are simply going to use it for email or web browsing - not running an image-driven site and file server from home. Therefore, they can save money by using less bandwidth and still providing the basic service required for most people's broadband (and keep people from hosting servers at home which is against most ISPs Acceptable Use Policy unless you get a business account of some type).

My cable is capped at 128kbps up, 512kbps down. For this service I pay £25 per monthFor the 1mbit down, 256kbps up, it's twice the amount, £50 per month 🙁![]()

Are you talking about the @Home cable service? Because your upload should have been capped at 128kbps if that was the case. The download wasn't capped on @Home, but the upload was.

RoadRunner is huge. With the combination of Comcast and ATTBI, RoadRunner has been grossly outnumbered as far as a customer base goes. Before, it was in the top five biggest broadband ISPs out there.

Uh... that's the way it should be. Unless you can prove that you know what you're doing, customers should NOT be allowed to fvck with the hardware. I've fixed too many problems of customers who just thought they'd try tweaking their connection. Either that or calling in once they realized that saying they'd do it all themselves (because, hey, they programmed a VCR, how hard could this be!?), they were simply left in the dust with no freaking idea how to connect a few cables.![]()
Besides. If you do it yourself, it's not covered under any warantee and will bring about a charge for having a tech out to repair it. Or piss of the tech on the phone once they realize they're working with a fvcktard who thought he could do it but only managed to hook one end of the coax to the microwave and the other to the cat's ass.
Trust me.... for everyone involved, it's better this way.

Well, nothing says that you have to stand in the corner blindfolded while he does the install. I had a free premium install, which added things under my warantee for those days where I just don't want to give a sh|t and I want to have someone else do the work. But you bet I watched that scrawny gum-chewing (ARG! NO GUM NEAR THE COMPUTER!!!!) stranger type on my keyboard.
I watched every key he pushed, and then rigorously cleaned it off after he left. Then I appologized to my baby profusely for letting anyone else touch her and promised that it was necessary and that I knew what I was doing -that it... was for the best.
She's still recovering, but we've developed that bond again. She even let me install a second HDD since then, too. She loves me. 🙂

I was standing right next to the guy watching him. Watching everything that he did. No way was I going to let some wierdo screw up my box trying to figure out where the start button was again.
