optimized Enhanced Apps

Thanks for the link, SirUlli. That's definitely reason enough for me not to do the Seti@Home project. :|

There is a lot more going on than whats in that one thread. Need to speed a lot (too much) time on the message boards to figure it all out.

Basicly the way I see it is:

Egos > Common sense on all sides.

There needs to be a room with about 1000 corners and a good number of people need to spend some time in one of them. I've seen children on playgrounds act more maturely than a number of people in the debates. "You cheated", "I want more credits", "If I don't get my way I'm shutting down the farm", etc, etc, etc. Waaah.

So many people b!tching and moaning but so few offering solutions. 🙁

Grow up people.:|

I have read a number of other Seti threads, plus over 90% of my BOINC work comes from the Einstein@Home project where optimized science apps have been actively encouraged and endorsed for all platforms involved. So I stand by my original post - I have no growing up to do.

all the threads that "accused " cruncher of wrong doing got deleted

so its kinda hard to know whats going on with only 1 side to the story...i do know its seti's loss if he does quit for good..

Thanks panhead49. I read the posts as per SirUlli, but could not make out what had actually casued Cruncher to stop. It was funny this morning I went the Cruncher site to see if there was an optimised update and it redirected me to the Eintein site (thought it was a hack a la amd.borg's site a while back. Read this post Inow realise he did it deliberetly. Very cute of him!!!

Does anyone one what happened? I don't see SETI annoying him so much. But it is fun to watch the 'children' drop a bomb and then run with it. The whole thing seems to be snowballing out of control.

I'll do my best here.

Cruncher & others were working with the Seti team to get the most optimizations into the offical app as possible.

Apparently there was some disagreement about the new credit system.

Seti team releases 5.12 but fails to note the changes in the CVS tree (credit multiple of 3.35).

Cruncher releases his 5.11 app with credit multiple of 7 (it was also 7 in the offical 5.11 beta app)

Couple days passed and cruncher released his 5.12 with a new multiple of 3.36

Users of Trux clients & optimized apps claimed that the sky was falling and the world was ending as their RAC was falling out of control.

Accusations of cheating started to get thrown about as 5.11 with the 2x credit claims remained on crunchers site (and remained on his site until he closed it)

Egos were hurt.

Users still claimed unfair by Seti & threating to boycott etc unless they get the credits they think they deserve, but yet offer no hard evidence to back the claims.

All of this made much worse my an inconsistant & sometimes overzealous mod.

Next to no feedback from the project itself.

The fire continues to burn out of control.

I think that about covers it.

Thanks RobertE. Makes more sense. As I think others will agree, just kidies throwing their toys out of the cot.

I'm here for the science and the credits. But I will take whatever credits I am entitled to. Not expect or demand more than my fair share.

I think it is an amazingly difficult task (which seems to have been done quite alright actually) to ensure the correct credits are allocated considering the multidude of projects and CPU platforms. The premutations must be stagering.

I agree with The Borg, but treating Crunch3r like that just isn't right!

He's the guy who made me run SETI again because my PIII 600 could actually do some good work with optimized apps.

I guess SETI has lost its most valuable contributor with him departing.

🙁
