If I tether my phone to my laptop, I get about low end dialup speeds. I want to know if there is a way I can switch back and forth between network 100Mbs speed and cellphone network settings. But first and foremost, I would like to know how I can optimize XP so that the internet on my cellphone runs faster on my laptop, for example using utilities that compress images/text, network adjustments for time to live? other such things. And an explanation of what each thing means.. (Maybe a site that does that) I'm pretty clueless and i've looked on google but I keep getting mixed results.

To switch back and fourth, in the network connections folder, go to advanced, and advanced again. Set your LAN to be higher than your tethered modem connenction in the list, and it will give it a higher metric so that whne they are both plugged in, the LAN will winout.

As for making web browsing more zippy, the compression needs to take place on a proxy server of sorts for it to makea difference. You could effectively turn off the images on sites and such from your end and see a boost, but it would ruin your experience.

Basically, stick to AJAX sties and set your cache to some really high number;)
