Optimal HDD arrangement for speed and backup

Currently I'm setting up a system with this configuration:

74GB Raptor
Windows XP
Utility installations
Personal files (pics, documents)

74GB Raptor
Windows page file
Music

150GB Raptor
Game installations

400GB Caviar
Manual backup of program files, personal, music, and games

Any thoughts on your favorite arrangements? I don't like RAID anymore, and if I have to I could use ghost for backup, but I've had success with manual backups at least every week.

From what I've read recently that looks about right. If you are concerned about Windows being able to write stop kernel message errors to disk you may want to keep a small(200MB or so) page file on your OS drive/partition. You may be doing this already(its default with OS anyway) and just not on list. Sweet HD setup!

I've had the 74GB raptors for a year now, and I'm pleased with windows performance with the separated page file, but I've been kind of worried about space, as I've accumulated over 50GB in iTunes, 20GB of personal files, and plenty of games. I'm also a fan of backing up files for the guys in my team, as everyone has a laptop, but they fail often.

So if I have 200MB on the OS drive, will windows automatically use the 2GB on the second drive for most of its swaps, or will it use the 200MB section primarily, and negate the advantage of having the OS and pagefile separated?

Windows will automatically(through algorythms?spelling) use the page file on the LEAST used hard drive- I would take it that you use Raptor 1 with the OS on it more than Raptor 2 so windows wil automatically use the page file on the 2nd drive all of the time(even when using 1st drive or any of your drives). At least this is what Microsoft says about it-http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314482/

No, windows automatically uses a system defined pagefile on the partition in which it is installed. *checks link* yep. says so in the first paragraph.

i have a pagefile on each hdd and found it be the best setup, although the differences in speed are small for bf2. have a look at the bf2 ram usage article i created in my sig, i go over pagefile stuff, although it is on my older computer...

I guess I'm looking at at least 1GB on the OS drive and probably 2-3GB on each of the other drives, each in its own partition. That kind of sucks though, putting away 10GB just for page file, since windows won't even use much of it.
