Optical Vs. Laser Sensor for FPS Games, what's best¿q

Hello everyone! I'm looking for a new Mouse because i just couldnt find any that i like, i had CM Storm Sentinel Z3RO G, Corsair Vengeance M65, Logitech g500, during gaming sessions i just feel i cant aim as good as i wish, i feel i can't get very good acurracy or it feels too hard to aim, i couldnt get use to any of the 3, i used the three for about 3 months without being pleased in FPS games. I was wondering if optical sensor is better for fps? If you ask i have a Cosair Dual Sided MM600 Aluminum Mouse Mat, i had a Steelseries Tyloo Limited Ed before...
Any suggestion or recommendation ?
Thanks in advance, regards.

Im thinking about ROCCAT Kone Pure Optical Core Performance Gaming Mouse

What about the Logitech G400s? Not too expensive, available in big box stores, and it works just fine on almost any surface (I'm a fan of cloth, myself, and most laser mice aren't).

The answer is optical is better.

I'm using Microsoft 1.1 SE and/or Microsoft 3.0... I used my Fatal1ty 2020 Laser Mouse for a while, but I use such low sensitivity, that lasers can't keep up with my fast flick shots... Using a laser mouse is cool, because it usually has really good DPI - which mine had, but for close combat it was not ideal... Only way to fix this, was to use a higher sensitivity or use Mouse Accel - either in some ways altered both my long range performance and consistency. With optical, it’s very exact, especially when overclocked to 500hz... It’s about as good as it gets... Don't listen to the hype right now about laser mice... You’re going to end up sacrificing one thing or the other; it will either be incredible at close range or incredible at long range. You can't have both with that device. So I advise optical as the way to go right now till the bandwidth on laser mice is improved so it can keep up with your moves.

Even fatality, who had a branded laser mouse named after him, perfers optical mice. Now that optical has up to 4000 dpi, I don't see the reason for laser as long as they continue to have acceleration issues. I just don't think laser tracks as smoothly or consistently on proper padded surfaces (although they can be better on slightly reflective surfaces).

I still think the whole optical vs laser thing is just one big hype (and I mean big). Realistically, you can't tell one bit of difference, save perhaps some extremely sensitive individuals - just like the mp3 vs CD quality neverending debate.

Methinks you haven't used some laser mice, or compared at all. I can use the sensors Logitech uses now, but there's still acceleration, and they're picky about surfaces. Anyone who moves their cursor faster than they can visually tracks should be able to tell differences between accelerating, skipping, and nice 1:1 sensing.

I used some optical mice in past (like everyone else, obviously).
I've been gaming on my good old G5 for over five years, and it's perfect. I don't have any problems with it at all, and sure as hell don't see anyting wrong with the movement.

You clearly don't move that fast, then. The G5 skipped badly. I had one, and ended up using it as my work mouse, because of that, then gave it away.

most lasers have acceleration, there are some "perfect" optical sensors, like the one in the g400

Allright. In that case the choice of optical vs laser is irrelevant to me, which makes me happy :D

Those that don't care about the accuracy of their pointer by definition don't care about the sensor or the optics. That is the reality of the reason why a lot of people are happy with measurably bad mice and sensors. It's one of the problems with mouse reviews, the reviewers themselves don't realise that none of their tests show up the issues with mice and so without critical reviews users think its all about ergonomics and we end up where we are today where higher DPI or button count defines 'good' in the eyes of most reviewers and buyers.

I am kind of happy every time a fellow FPS player buys a mouse that isn't accurate, it means there is one more player willing to play with a disadvantage they don't realise they have. On that basis I should probably stop trying to convince people to buy accurate mice.

Well, I have no way of telling whether my mouse is bad or not, and since I don't have any problems playing BF3, the conclusion is it's good enough.

Well i've noticed the acceleration in BF3, i'm not a great player but i feel the difference, sometimes help but most of the time i get killed trying to aim to their heads, its there and its hard for me to aim properly, so i wouldnt mind to try Optical, whats the best optical? I can get right know a brand new G400 VERY CHEAP or i can order in Amazon a Roccat Kone Pure Optical VERY EXPENSIVE and i'll have to wait 20 days for it to arrive, the only difference between both is the color customization and the higher dpi sensor? (4000 vs 3600) so that means the g400 is the way to go in my situation ? Thanks you guys for your help and telling your experience. I can buy the G400 tomorrow if i do i'd love to give the feedback here since i had three expensive Laser Mouse with very high end sensors

Which mouse is the best also depends on how you grip the mouse. They all have different shapes and sizes and you need to know if you are a finger tipper, claw grip or palm gripper. Mice in each category that are flawless are available but I only really pay any attention to claw and palm (since I am oddly a mix of the two) so don't comment outside of those, I don't recommend mice I haven't personally used either.

Well guys, i've done the test, i bought on Friday the G400 and i must say the difference is quite large, my accuracy has improved a lot, aiming is very much accurate, the pros about the laser mices is that you can turn around in a second moving the mouse a little bit, but definitively felt the difference, i cant believe its so cheap compared to the others i had and it was better for my needs..

Laser doesn't handle the pick up as well either. When I had a razer laser mouse, it would still track when i picked it up for a brief moment. Doesnt happen with optical, it stops detecting the surface after 1.5-2mm
