Hi. I have a ps3 (which has an audio optical out) and I have Creative Gigaworks G500 gaming speakers (which are 5.1 and have the orange green black connectors)..

Right now I have the ps3 setup so that it has component cables (which include stereo audio) going into my LCD tv. Then I have my LCD tv's auxiliary out going into my speakers auxiliary in. It is only stereo sound and I want true digital surround. Unfortunately my speakers don't have a normal digital input and have only the 5.1 green orange black sound card connectors.

I need some kind of decoder / receiver that has optical input and 5.1 computer output.

something like this would be nice: http://us.creative.com/product...egory=136&product=9468

Here is a link to my speakers: http://us.creative.com/product...25&product=10814&nav=2

Unfortunately this decoder is out of stock and is too expensive on ebay.

Any other recomedations?

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of device you'd need. I was going to suggest looking if ebay had any, but the few that I found had absolutely ridiculous prices.

Do you have a computer in the loop here at all?

There are other dolby digital decoders that you could get besides the creative unit, but I don't know if one in particular would work well to be an affordable solution for you.

What's your budget for this project?

On the very cheap end, you could get an adapter to give you 5 channel stereo from stereo output from the PS3 which would get all your speakers to play, but it wouldn't really be surround.

No I have no computer in the setup.

I don't want to spend more than $150 for this and I don't want an adapter that does stereo sound.. Can you give me a link to these dolby digital decoders?

Well I know Klipsch used to make one specifically for computer speaker systems for example
http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Pr...VWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

There are also dolby decoders in a general category, but I don't know if any of these are really good units or not.
http://search.ebay.com/search/...hi=&fsop=32%26fsoo%3D2 (some of these are what you'd want and some aren't as I just searched for "decoder")

There's also the possibility of getting just a receiver with pre-outs. Something like a used Harman Kardon from the harmanaudio ebay store might get you in that range as well and it would offer a lot of upgrade opportunities vs. just a decoder unit.
I'm not sure what they're going for now, but something like an AVR-230 or AVR-235 or AVR-240 would have pre-outs and still be affordable.

Yeah, I would personally go the receiver rout like Yoyo suggested. The nice thing is you'll be buying something that can do a whole lot more than just a decoder. Granted, it may be a bit more expensive, but it will grow with you if you decide to upgrade your speakers later.
