Optical out on my Live Value not working

I recently bought a Hoontech DB I for my Live Value (yes it was a model listed as compatable with the addon).
All the cables are connected, and in the right places, and there is no light coming from my optical cable.

Is there something I have to do in software to make this work? I'd like to get the better quality sound going to my MD soon. :)

Did you enable digital output on the mixer? If you use Creative's SurroundMixer it is the plus sign above the main volume slider. I have not used the optical out yet. Should you even see light? I suppose it should be safe to look at but I wouldn't wanna be pointing it at my eyes just in case :)

Oddly enough this caught my eye even though my problem is different. I built a 600 for a buddy in April and now the Live line out (front speakers) is dead. Could this be the same problem? He's the type to go checking boxes when he has no clue what they are for. The rear line out works fine and its not the speakers, I tested by plugging headphones into both line outs.

With the "Digital Out Only" box checked, I still am unable to get any response out of my fibre-optic cable.

I probably shouldn't be looking straight into the light (that *should* be produced), but I should at least be able to detect that there is a light being produced.

I had the same problem until I downloaded the real Liveware drivers from www.soundblaster.com Apparently my oem sb live value didn't come with it, only the generic drivers with minimal functions.

I just tried installing the drivers (not liveware) again, from CL's site, and its still not working. :(

I'm using Windows Milennium, if that makes any difference (it should work with the 98 drivers if I'm not mistaken).

Contact Creative tech support. They are usually very helpful. Be prepared for lots of options if you call in.

I had this problem. And I found out that it was because a bad I/O card. The vendor replaced it with the new one and it works now...

Are u sure u are using the correct cable? SOme Sb live's require u to use an IDE cable instead of the included one.

It doesn't use a cable, it connects directly onto the SBLive.

I'll fire off an e-mail to hoontech, and see what they say.

Can you test the coax connection to at least help you isolate the problem?

I don't have anything to test the coax with unfortunatly :( All I need the digital out for is to connect to my Minidisc, which is optical (and of course in the repair shop as we speak - as well as for the last 2 months...).
