Since you didn't say anything about the Value card, I take it you are running the Platinum Live 5.1 card (which is the same as the other 5.1 cards) with the IR drive... what I stated in that thread should work then...

Mine is working fine now.
Do you see a red light on the end of the cable?
And is it plugged into the optical in jack?
Also, does you MD recorder have to be switched to optical in?

This happened to me too. When I first bought/installed the drive, the optical was working fine. But then recently I was looking to record some songs on my MD and I realized that it wasn't working anymore. If you find a solution for this problem, I'd be much obliged if you'd tell me. 🙂 Thanks!
