if it is a cordless mouse, does it matter what connection?

No, not really. Just use whatever. IF you use linux, you might want to stick with the PS2 - if you are all about windows either should work, with USB probably being preferred by most.

It doesn't really matter. However, like Toxic said, I'd recommend PS/2 if you do alot of work in Linux or even DOS.

Most people claim that using the USB results in smoother movement. The USB sample rate is hardware locked at 125 samples per second. I have my MX500 on my PS/2 right now with the sample rate turned to 200 SPS using the Logitech software and I can't tell a difference from when I had it on the USB port.

I prefer PS/2 still.

I like to keep my USB ports for scanners, printers, digi. cameras and so on...

I just got a Logitech MX500 and use it on the PS/2 port. As long as mainboards have PS/2 ports, I'm using those instead of using up a USB port. There is no difference in speed or accuracy. With the logitech drivers you can set the PS/2 report rate higher for smoother operation.

I prefer USB for both my mouse and keyboard,it`s nice you can hot swap them with USB as well.

Use PS/2 :D

Why waste a USB port when you already have a port on your motherboard made espcially for a mouse?

I must put in a little dissenting opinion here.:)
I have a Logitech Dual Optical (wired), and it was on the PS/2 port for awhile; I had set it to do 200 refreshes per second, the highest the port would allow. Well I decided to try the USB connection; it is a lot more sensitive now, and seems smoother and more responsive. I've not really noticed any problems with it now. I don't use Linux much yet though.

I do it all the time, when working on other systems. Easier just to use my mouse keyboard and monitor.

Using the USB port will also free up a IRQ for you if you need one. If you plug the mouse into the PS/2 port, the mouse will hog up one IRQ by itself. It's just something to keep in mind if you need a IRQ address. It is nice to have options.

USB has a longer life then PS/2,hot swapping and only using one IRQ for all USB devices is more then enough for me to not bother with PS/2,besides I`ve plenty of free USB ports ;).
