Eh, that keingston one sells for around 20 bucks...you should go to onvia and get a real microsoft one (only 3 buttons though) for like 22.49 shipped, no need to buy 4 to get free shipping.

I have heard (but have not seen this for myself as i have only used one optical mouse once for a short period of time) that opticals unlike the ball type are somthing you cannot skimp on they are not equal unlike the older more simple ball moves rollers and make cursor move type. Is this true? are the kingston, logitech, other aftermarkets as good as the Ms? Also i was told that the second gen MS are better than the first, is this true? and if so why?

My MS Optical mouse is the best! I go through mice very quickly for some odd reason. I've owned the Microsoft and Logitech normal ball mice and even though the Logitech one was a bit better, both really sucked ;)

Just a word of advice, optical mice are great for gaming and regular use. I suggest not skimping out on the brand and just go with either Logitech or Microsoft (both are great)

I would not classify Logitech and Kensington as "other aftermarkets" theyre just as good if not better than MS
anyways- I believe the optical eye technology is all licensed from the same place- atleast for MS & Logitech

I bought that mouse from them. Let me tell you this, if you're running Windows 2000 they do not supply you with a valid driver for the mouse. Also if you move the mouse really fast back and forth or up and down it screws up and goes bezerker. You probably won't notice this in regular use, I never did, only found out by playing with it one day and moving it very fast hehe. Anyway guess you get what you pay for... it took me like a week to get used to it, at first I hated it. I went from a microsoft intelimouse wheel to this one...

Grillmaster - I was not sayin that logitech was generic. I was saying logitech, kingston, and the aftermarkets(as 3 seperate items).

hmmm.... from what I have heard:
Microsoft and Logitech have the same optical technology from Agelent(sp)
they only differ with the drivers that you install and the buttons

and the cheese one posted here sucks bad... the optical eye dies soon err so I have heard and somethings about just not good...

I would spend the extra buck and get a nice one... you do use it every ... minute or so...

All optical mice get screwwy when you spin it really really really fast... Had experience with logitech wheel and mouse man, and with ms optical.

i've had the chance to tryout that kensington optical mouse when my old mouse bit the dust. it's a really really good looking mouse! the only problem i had with it were the drivers, it worked fine for win98, but not so with win2k, but if you use it in usb mode, everything's just fine, just lose the use of the 2 side buttons.

in the end i returned it and got a ms optical mouse, costs a little more, but been trouble free. oh, forgot to mention, both the kensington and the ms mouse do the berserk thing when you move it too fast when used through the ps2 port, but it's fine with the usb. it's really weird.

::Yawn:: I posted this a while ago :) We've already debated and figured out it is a cheap replica of MS :)

i've used the logitech mouseman wheel optical mouse for about a month and absolutely love it. much better feel and ergonomic design than the microsoft or kennsington versions. plus with a kooler blue light than microsoft's garish red.

i've used it under win98/win2000/linux with full functionality without installing drivers too. of course logitech's drivers rock and add a few nice features. my old mouseman used to crash win98 occasionally as a PS/2, but I moved it over to USB and haven't had any problems sonce

the only problem is what was mentioned above: it skips if you move it too fast.. so it's not really a gamer's mouse. but i highly recommend the logitech versions over anything else. you can get it from buy.com for mid-$30ish with come creative couponing. worth every penny
