Optical Mouse accessories

I've got an MX DUO and it tracks/glides pretty decent. Does anyone know if those skatez/feet are really worth it? And is there a mouse pad/surface of choice? My desktop isn't bad, but it could be better.

i'm using an mx300 and I just use a normal mouse pad. The only suggestion I'd have is optical seems to work best on non-shiny darker colored surfaces.

Hi, Sokratz,

If you're interested, I was told by a Logitech rep recently that the lighter color your mouse pad, the longer the batteries in the MX 700 mouse will last. Seems the darker colored pads (like black or navy blue, for instance) are harder for the optical eye to read than a lighter colored background, and thus the mouse uses more power to do so. The rep also said the mouse tracks slightly less efficiently with the darker pads too, although I used to use mine with a black pad and it tracked fine (I don't game though, so I might not be the best test case for that). I did switch to a lighter colored pad shortly thereafter. This mouse tracks unbelievably well.

Doesn't really answer your original question, but I thought you might like to know this about the MX 700 mouse (if you didn't already). 🙂

i have the mx700 as well... didnt know the color of your mouse pad would affect the battery. i better change my mouse pad asap. im using black atm 🙁

Yeah, I used black before too. Only downside to a lighter colored mat now is that they obviously show dirt sooner. I just wash mine in the sink a few times a year and it's fine though. Small price to pay for being able to go a bit longer between charges (and for slightly better tracking, if that's indeed the case).

Are you a gamer?? First person shooter gamer?

I dunno about the mouse feet, but some people say it gives them better movement in games. As for a mouse pad, either the RatPadz or func will be very good

I use a piece of sheet teflon for a optical mouse pad, it works great.

I use teflon tape because ratpads really tear up the feet of my mouse.

Same here. I coated the feet of my MX510 with Teflon tape and it's now smoother and more responsive as well as preventing wear on my mouse feet. I'm using an everglide pad.
