optical drives on same or separate IDE cables?

i'm about to add a 2nd optical drive to the computer which is a DVD burner. if i plan to do direct backups of my dvds, should i put the dvd burner on a separate IDE cable from the DVD-ROM to optimize burning speeds or is that issue not a factor anymore?

Won't matter, since IIRC you can't do a direct, on-the-fly backup of a DVD like you can an audio CD.
