optical drive - vertical vs horizontal

gychang

Senior member
I need to have a CD/DVD optical drive sit vertically on my thin PC case.

Do I need a special optical drive or can all do this vertically?. As expected one I tried seems to play OK but falls out when the tray is opened. I know some vendors have vertical optical drive...

thanks,

gychang

Some optical drives have little clips/nubs to hold the disc in when it is mounted vertically. I've had no problems in the past using a drive like that vertically.

All I have seen will work vertically and horizontally. The Hub will center the disk when the tray closes.

I noticed the CD flies out when it is vertical and push the button..., but does seem to play OK.

yup the ones that can have tabs in the tray, sometimes you gotta swing them out.
or get a slot drive.
the tabs were a pain to use though
