Opteron vs. FX

I am currently thinking about my next system and was wondering if Opteron's perform similarly to their FX counterparts (games, encoding, photshop, etc.). They are in the same price range and around the same price so I was curious. I understand there will be other cost factors given that I would be buying two processors and registered memory.

Unless your going to do a dual setup I see no reason whatsoever to buy an Opteron over a A64 or FX. You can still find the FX 53 or just buy an A64 4000+ which is cheaper than 53 or 55 and is nothing but an FX 53 with a 4000+ tag.
