Opteron vs. AMD64

I can get a 1.8 Opteron for $232 or an amd64 3000+ $224.

So here is the question which would be better? The amd64 runs at 2.0 and the Opteron runs at 1.8, but the Opteron has 1 Meg of cache, while the amd64 only has 512k. Also I think Opteron's run duel channel, but it is ECC ram so it is slower, then non-ECC of the amd 64. I see pros and cons to both chips but which is one is better?

Just remember you have to use registered memory with an Opteron and a socket 940 motherboard (neither of which are cheap).

:Q OH dude, I WISH!!! We all have some disposable income. I have various hobbies. In no particular order:

My computer habit
My truck (accessories) habit
My Home Theater habit
My girlfriend habit (this one is physically deadly....)

I like my toys. I work hard. I deserve it. :)

ps
You will notice that I'm running a (comparitively) old-tech CPU/mobo. No A64 or P4EE here! The budget is not bottomless...I just choose to spend instead of save. You can't take it with you, dammit.

Opteron just sounds cooler. I'd go with it just for that alone. Just imagine someone asking you what kind of system you've got and you answer...
