So what you are saying is, "how dare you post facts in a thread intended to ridicule"?

:\

Sorry, I'm not impressed with a cut and paste job of bog standard ARM cores that's a year late. Especially when it's being positioned against a 2013 product.

If Intel did this the ADF's hair would be on fire.

Yes, my thread. Go look at the op.

Is that why you start AMD threads? To control the content since clearly have a very low opinion on AMD. You seek to quickly start a new topic so you can attempt to control the content of the subject. You made a subject call "Opteron A1100 is shipping." Any post relevant to it has it's place here. Again, you are not the owner of Anandtech CPU forum and I can clearly see your attempt here of starting this thread to gain control and manipulate.

The people that say this is midway between avoton and bw d are delusional. This is clearly an avoton competitor and people that bring up a product that consumes almost as twice wattage and costs many times more too clearly cant grasp the target of this product. Probably k12/zen will be pitted against bw d/skl d in the future.

I didn't know 35W was twice the wattage of what A1100 consumed.

It's not surprising at all - a usual brigade of bashers is using such tactics frequently.

Btw, I'm expecting that one of them will create thread about AMD Q4 result as soon as possible.

So should AMD have released a platform with no software a year ago just to make you happy? Go look at anandtechs Power review, is that useful?

No matter what AMD did you would be critical so why bother even posting everyone knows what your going to say, really Phynaz could be replaced with 100 lines of perl no one would know the difference.

There's still no software.

Since you are using power consumption and TDP as interchangeable terms, you clearly cant grasp how wrong your statement is.

Anyone can make a 4790K at non turbo speeds sip 125W. What was it's tdp again? :think:

With both processors under load I would not be wrong, at least as far as Intel chips are concerned. Since AMD doesn't publish the thermal data sheets for their processors I can't say if it will have the same behavior, but since I cannot say that the 32W TDP is real or not this is not a big deal.

88W 4790K could exceed 88W TDP or power for a certain period of time, but its ultimately limited to 88W, regardless of whether its thermal or power limits.

Surface Pro 4 Core i7 demonstrates that TDP = Power. It doesn't have to and TDP could have been > Power, but for a stable design and system you'd want to keep them the same. When they introduced Turbo Boost 2.0 with Sandy Bridge and package power could increase beyond TDP for a while, its only during the time when thermal headroom was available. After that they had to BOTH go back down.

Another example:

Realistic load(numbers made up for example):
-Core i3 65W: 50W, 2.3GHz
-Core i5 65W: 65W, 2.8GHz Turbo

Very demanding load
-Core i3 65W: 65W, 2.3GHz
-Core i5 65W: 65W, 2.3GHz

TDP is a worst case scenario over an reasonable average period of time. It's unlikely above TDP scenarios can be sustained. The particular reason Core M Broadwell(Skylake yet to be seen) was bad was that it finally deviated from that scenario.

Where are you getting this data?

It's not going to fill any niches, the niches are already filled and A1100 brings nothing new to the table.

Intel C2758 8x ATOM Cores Motherboard = $340
20W TDP
4x 1GbE Ethernet
2x SATA-6 ports

+

Intel Ethernet X520-SR2 Server Adapter = $345
2x 10GbE Ethernet ports
6-8W power consumption

+

8x SATA-6 port PCIe card = $95
1W power Consumption

Total price = $780
Total Power = 27-29W

vs

AMD A1100

Price = $300-400
TDP = 32W

vs

Intel XEON-D 1520 Quad Core

Price = $490
TDP = 45W

For once I actually agree. If you need 10Gbe Ethernet, tons of RAM and drives and little processing power, the A1100 fills this niche. Question is if it is big enough to actually be profitable.

Seems like this proccy is going to be right dandy for file hosts, no?

That right there is one big ass niche.

D-1520 should be more like $199 it seems. Price is artificially high. Probably until supply increases?

Prices are for the boards including the SoCs.

Intel AVOTON C2758 board price at Newegg = $340

SuperMicro XEON-D 1520 board price at Newegg = $490

The Supermicro board with C2750 and 17 SATA/SAS is $490
The Asrock Avoton boards with 12 SATA is about 220-340.

and these has been in the market for at least a year.

Again what are the features of the sata controller on A1100s? regular SATA is just not enoght.

Also you are trying to match specs, the dual 10G ethernet, its gona work with those arm cores or its just overkill?
The SATA controller can even push that much data over ethernet and the CPU is enoght to keep it up?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157475

Of those 12x SATA ports only 8x are SATA-6.

And if you will add the 2x 10GbE Ethernet PCIe card at $345, total price will still be $795 to have the same features as the A1100 boards.

The Asrock Avoton boards with 12 SATA is about 220-340.

Cheapest AVOTON board on Newegg is at $250.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182914

This is a Quad Core C2550 with only 2x SATA-6 ports and only 1GbE Ethernet.

Cheapest 8x Core C2758 board is at $340 and this one only has 2x SATA-6 and 4x 1GbE Ethernet.

and these has been in the market for at least a year.

And today a better product is on the market.

When Ill have the full specs ill report back.

I dont believe the CPU will have a problem with those tasks.
