You have a Socket 939 board that uses DDR2?

Welcome to the forum, docdave628.

I have a 939 board sitting around doing nothing and waiting for Opterons to drop in price. I'll wait awhile longer to see if they drop much further. Just curious. Does anyone know the overclock potential on this?

ASrock motherboards support both AM2 and 939.

Yeah, but lookin at his current system, he doesn't even use the DDR2 now. Why buy a new ASrock mobo just to use the Opteron. Buy a 775 mobo and a C2D...unless of course you have a thing for AMD. Then I'd go AM2 anyway.

I don't know about these OEM's but I have a Boxed 185 I got from Newegg 2 months ago that's running over 3 ghz with the stock cooler right now. I was afraid they might stop selling these completely, as newegg ran out a few weeks ago but then got them back. Try finding these anywhere else. Directron sometimes has them for $366.

not really hot imo since you can get an am2 brisbane chip, 2 gigs of ddr2 ram, and a good overclocking motherboard that'll have a really good chance of taking the brisbane to 3ghz (or close at least) for less than the price of this 939 opteron...

Sorry for not being clear, that's not what I meant. I meant, I bought some new DDR2 and my funds/money should go towards building that rig(mobo, cpu, etc.), rather than blowing money on a dual core 939 just because it's at a decent price.

Although everyone should note that...if you are building a new rig or started to already based on DDR2, the e6600 should be around the same price, and of course it is superior to it when overclocked, and further more... the Q6600 is supposed to be around $270 in 2 months.
