opteron 185 benchmarks or FX-60?

i'm trying to find some opteron 185 reviews cause i hear its the same CPU as the FX-60 with a locked multiplier.
this will be the last upgrade for my 939 board before the overhaul at the end of the year.
i'm also trying to compare it to my X2 4400+.

would the comparisons between the fx-60 and the 4400+ be comparable to the opteron 185 and the 4400+ since its the same chip??


i cant find any reviews, benchmarks, nothing, not even on toms hardware

I moved from a 4400 to a 185 and I noticed a difference in encoding times. I also bought it mainly for the OC potential even though I have yet to OC it.

i dont OC either, but may in the future.

I did some quick benchmarking via a stopwatch and DVD Shrink (w/ deep analysis) dropped several minutes off of a full size DVD. I never benchmark my games so I can't offer any info there.

they are similar, not identical. the fx-60 has unlocked multipliers, and the opterons have passed industrial-grade testing. both are poor choices for overclocking, since they are already running at close to their full potential.

I find this funny, since last year they were the ungodly kings of overclocking.

Personally I do alot of gaming and other CPU intensive tasks, and have yet to find a reason for my FX-60 to be turned into a core 2 (although all the computers ive built since at work/for friends have been core 2)

I plan to eventually turn this into an HTPC when quad cores become reasonable, and when the Barcelona vs clovertown/penyrn thing is figured out.

i'm not into OC'ing, but not opposed to it. i'm afraid i'll burn my stuff up, and since i live in PHX, cool air is hard to come by

if any of you were to choose between the 2, which one would you go for, the fx-60 or the opty 185?

i might be stuck with the opty anyway, newegg doesnt even seem to have any fx-60's in

if you arent overclocking, to you they are 100% identical in every way.

if you arent overclocking, to you they are 100% identical in every way.

probably not OC'ing, but i might give it a shot just to see what i can get from it.
it really doesnt matter if it can OC too much for me, the less heat the better

fx-60. unlocked multipliers ftw, but crap overclocking ftl.

185 is supposed to be able to do 3.0 GHz pretty easily.
