Opteron 175 for $19.10

Okay...got off the phone with Gweyn from Page Computers...She originally said the product was back ordered and that's why it was cancelled and then I said that maybe it was mis priced and she went to check and said that must be it since so many Opteron orders were cancelled.

My card had funds put on hold though and they said I should expect a refund to go through in about 5 business days.

Deal dead. =(

To come in from another angle though, that is a heavy hit on their part. Some people ordering 15 pieces. That's enough to put a small company out of business, so although I would have like my 2 opteron processors, I'm fine with not getting it.

I mean, come on, it's like we're disappointed for not being able to exploit someone's mistake. If they would've honored it great. But since they didn't, well, that's cool too.

I see where your coming from.

I'll be happy again when the money is back in my account. =p

I doubt it was a [price] mistake. I think it was a poorly masked attempt to get as many folks to set up an account with them and/or share personal information, which we'll never know how they are going to [ab]use.

Check out the MacMall price!

That make 3 resellers having "wrong" prices.
I wonder if they all have the same supplier and quoted a ridiculously low price. Do they all buy directly from AMD. Perhaps somebody working in AMD's sales department have too much booze from the Halloween parties...

You doubt this was a mistake? I didn't set up an account. I couldn't because the site was getting hammered. I doubt this was something planned. Hmm lets see... Let's price three of our CPUs at rediculously low prices so we can get a bunch of suckers to attempt to purchase them. That way we can get their email addresses, lose business when our site goes down for a couple hours from all the requests, get negative publicity for not having accurate pricing and not honoring the price, spend tons of man hours cancelling orders and contacting everyone to tell them that their orders will be cancelled and deal with credit card charge backs and possibly lost $$$ for credit processing fees. Sounds like a great marketing plan to me.

Probably a supplier pricing issue if that many vendors had it wrong. Maybe Ingram Micro screwed it up...

So, the data entry people at 3 completely different stores are telepathically connected and make mistakes in unison.
Yea, that's the reason!

Supplier pricing issue?
You're kidding.

I don't know what went wrong here but why else would at least 3 vendors have similar low ball prices on these CPUs? PC Connection, Macmall and Page Computer are all reputable online resellers that are not in the business to scam people. I can gaurantee that none of these vendors want to deal with all the hassle this price mistake caused them. I am sure this was not a deliberate act on their parts.

Not sure if this is the case here, but say in photo/video it pretty much a norm that one (usually rather shady) physical organization has more than one Internet store. Do we know that these internet stores are not at all related to each other?

To knightc2:
1) to get in on this you should have gotten up earlier (or stayed up later). I put my order at about 7:30am EST without any problem
2) I do hope that whoever let the mistake happen pays for it

Here is my take.
AMD is awash in the sock 939 Opterons, which is a fact.
They choose to unload a truckload of them at a few selected stores at extremely discounted prices to test the demand.
The stores mark them up with their usual % as any other product and then place them on the market.
The response is totally overwhelming.
The stores pull back the original price, cancel the orders and adjust the prices according to the market demand.

That's really shady of them to charge the card before shipping.

Which is why I broke the golden rule and called. I wanted to know if the thing had shipped. I knew it hadn't. No email that it had shipped, no tracking number, no status change on their site. Nada.

I could have chanced it and waited it out. At one point the status was processing. I ordered it at 5:45am CDT this morning. It may have even gone through if I'd kept my mouth shut.

But I have a problem with getting charged before a product ships. To me that borders on shady business.

No, he's not. It happens, and for those who have been around awhile it wouldnt be the first time Ingram has done sumthin like this. FYI Ingram is a supplier who many vendors you see on pricewatch and the like get their product and do drop shipments from. They have a live price scale that is linked to vendors websites that auto-updates the vendors pricing.

Pretty much all online vendors with automated systems do this. The rest do not because they probably manually enter stuff in. The "good" vendors like Newegg usually ship so fast that nobody notices they charged first. Take a look at your emails from them. First is an order confirmation. Second is a charge confirmation, usually really soon after the order. If you order on a Friday, that charge confirmation is on a Friday as well, though the order would be shipped on a Monday.

You might be right Zap but I know Amazon, Deep Discount DVD and Buy.com only charge when shipped, and they would have to be considered pretty much all automated. Just recently at DDD when they had a B1G1 free deal, I ordered 24 DVDs (12 paid and 12 free) for around 75.00 total shipped. One of them wasn't available to ship but they still shipped the "free one" (I received 23 DVDs) and they charged me 69.xx. Ten days later, the other was available to ship and they then charged the the remaining 6.xx for that one. It really is the way business should be done. And since these fairly large e-tailers can do it, it must be available for the rest. That is the primary reason I have not done business with Monarch. People have been complaining about just that fact, charging before shipping.
