ROFL.... your hella funny... personally i dont know whats funnier... him asking funny questions like, is my 2.5ghz clocked as fast as a 6ghz p4,
or the fact he bought a opty 170 without knowing exactly what the heck it is.
I don't know what's more pathetic:
1. Using "ROFL" in a conversation
2. Saying "hella funny"
3. Or not remembering the famous saying, "He who asks a question may be a fool for five minutes. But he who never asks a question remains a fool forever"
It makes me mad when on a forum people discourage questions- a question no matter how dumb is still a question, knowledge comes through questioning. To you my question may be dumb, but to me... I have no experience with Athlons and my world is limited because I have only used Intels. I could have looked on google but such a question is most likely not answered in any reviews!
A forum is defined as A public meeting place for open discussion. Keep it that way, open discussion means not having to be afraid to post questions for fear that jerks will come along and laugh at them or ridicule them.
I know what the Opteron 170 is. It is a dual core processor that is practically identical to the X2 4000+ but the Opterons are used more in servers so because of the extensive stress they might go on a server- they tend to be made using higher grade silicon which is perhaps what enables it to overclock higher.
okey let me be frank. i dont bash, you can usually find me posting help solutions to people that need help. Quite honestly u made what i concider the most common and yet, simple mistake u can possibly make in technology. \ ALSO there is no such thing as a X2 4000. its 3800, 4200, 4400, 4800, FX-60
YOU BOUGHT SOMETHING WHERE YOU HAD NO IDEA ON WHAT IT WAS AND YOUR ASKING QUESTIONS THAT CAN BE ANSWERED IN 10SEC VIA GOOGLE.COM.
I honestly dont mind answering your techinical question, but simple questions that can be answered in searching though google and not getting a lame response is thinking too highly. Your post gave me a fairly good laugh, because it reminded me of how naive i once was.
Also, when people posted twice that its fair to 1.5x your AMD clock speed to get a relative p4 speed, then ask is my AMD as fast as a 6.0ghz right after, that really means ur here to gloat you have a opty 170.
Lastly, im really happy you bought a opty 170 there excellent chips, yet you probably have no clue on exactly what you bought. Maybe u should of asked before you bought one what it exactly is, done a little research and then built one. U should also check out robertk2012's post on the differences between a X2 and a Opty. Also, if you do hit over 2.8ghz on your opty, then congrats, but hitting 3.0 on air, is more likely a dream. And you said you would go water cooling, DO U HAVE ANY IDEA ON HOW TO SETUP A LIQUID COOLING KIT? Its not something u can just pull together and connect, each custom watercooling kit has its own characteristics and traits, if u have no clue on how to set one up, then you google and when u have any outside questions, then u ask, not the other way around.
Final note, when i built my system, each part was thoughly researched, and i spent countless hours of my free time researching on each part that would be the most cost effective, yet maintain the highest quality. The only part which i actually took a gamble and bought was the thermaltake TWV PSU. I know im going to get bashed on this, but my other systems all use seasonic, and i wanted a voltage meter on my computer so i can see exactly how much power my system uses. For those of u guys wondering, its a great PSU, and i can tell if something is wrong or running funny by the voltage my system is using overall. BTW its less then 215 overall with dual 6800GT's and both cores at 100%.
