News:
Not scaling well.

At all.
Primed all night on blend, with a VERY weird result? (I guess the RAM was on a huge divider, so that makes some tiny amount of sense)

Only went through one test.

Weird, I know.
But hey, didn't error out.

Edit:

Figured rather than bump the thread, I'll just edit it.

Final overclock is as follows:
1.425v; 2520 Mhz--I could probably go higher, but the chip really doesn't scale well after this. Not worth me pushing it that hard for the bigger e-penis. [I don't feel like pushing uber volts into it, even under water]

I figure I did well for a chip that was only 330 dollars.
:D

The numbers and letters are the stepping. They tell you the week and day that it was made, as well as other stuff. Generally, all processors of a stepping will perform almost exactly the same, so it is useful when trying to get a good chip. But at stock, there is no real difference between the steppings, at least on 165s.

I keep hearing this but never heard/seen any conclusive results. I know in theory the lifespan is deteriorated, but if it's even half of a six or seven year life, that's more than enough in my book. I update my CPU every 12-18 months anyhow, and most people would be hard pressed to run one 3-4 years! My wife's laptop is approaching its three year anniversary, but its long in the tooth and ready to be replaced.

You're very mistaken in how long people can use a computer. My dad still uses a pentium 3 (800), and its not like hes a technology noob or anything. He probably does everything you do, except games. And up untill a couple of months ago, I was running a 1.7 p4 (williamette), and playing games, etc. (with a geforce MX440). Everything worked fine.

Anyways, I've been considering getting one of the opterons or an x2. I don't really feel like overclocking, however, so I might just go with a 4400. But if I do decide to, is there much OC difference between the different DC opterons? Or will they all pretty much go up to 2.4-2.6?

I'd grab an X2 3800+
Most of them can hit 2.5Ghz with reasonable voltage, and you'll save ~40 bucks.
