Posted this at XS, as well.

Here goes:

Just got it in from FedEx/TankGuys, latest they've ever delivered, 6:20.

I'd ordered an FPMW, but apparently it was an SPMW--no matter, shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I'm going to revamp my water system, tubing and such, need to clean it out altogether because of the massive algae buildup (well, not massive. Slight discoloration, but I'm going to empty/refill it, nonetheless.)

So, I'll run it on air first; no case. (Water system is basically integrated into my case at this point...)

Then tomorrow I'll stick it under water, once I get a bit of DI water.

Wish me luck, prelims will be coming in an hour or so.

Bah. Running 1.504vcore, and having tons of difficulty running past 2.5ish

Hard-pressed to run passes 280x9.

It might be my board, but I'm running a DFI-Ultra-D.

Temps are a bit high (50-52-43; CPU, PWM IC, Chipset, respectively.) but I haven't put it under water yet.

Hopefully with a heat reduction I'll hit 2.8ish.

Edit: 2574. Bumping it up in clockgen slowly. VERY slowly. Working on it.
=/

Editx2: 2588

w00t! 2615!

w0000t! 2636!
Getting closer.

by the looks of it, the opteron you got isn't very good...i'd say your using too much voltage, it's gonna severely decrease lifespan...

I'm just testing now, seeing where it maxes out on the stock cooler. I really hope it's a heat issue, and that water will bring it down enough to where I can squeeze out the extra 200Mhz.
Also, note, fails prime at anything past 2600.

Taking the voltage down and going to go as low as possible to keep 2550, then I'll up it 1.6 and see how high I get once I set the WC up today. After I find the max, I'll decrease the voltage 'till it's stable at whatever the max was.

Or so the plan goes.

Had to run a few errands.

Cleaning out the system now, a lot of gunk was starting to build up on the walls of the tubes (and undoubtedly inside my radiator) so it WILL take some time.

Cleaning it out with some improv pipe cleaners, then going to run the system open-circuit in a laundry basket water with a tad bit of bleach to clean it out. Might skip the bleach, not quite sure.

Using DI water (Cheap insurance in case of a leak) but also going to head to buy some algacide and fungicide from a local pool store.
That should keep the nasties away.

I'll let you guys know when I finish.

Taking a lot longer then I anticipated. Decided to go out and buy new tubing, so redoing the whole system. Also switching to a T-Line instead of a res-based system.

So, should be done later tonight. Meh.

All I have to say it 'w00t.'

After rebuilding the water system (which took around ~10 man hours to reassemble, might I add >_> Between running around, buying new stuff, etc.), slapped in the Opty, and loaded straight 9x300. (Note, before, I couldn't do anything past 9x285 and prime..)
Priming away for 10 minutes now, not a problem.

I guess heat was the cap.

Crap. Core0 just failed. *curses self*
I'm going to let it 'burn-in' all night @ 2650, and maybe with a bit of AS5 settling I'll be able to bring it up a bit.

*goes to restart*

And if that doesn't help, I just got a crap chip. Oh well.

Edit: Odd feeling that the PWM IC's at 61Cs is the problem. I'll stick a fan in and see if it is.

Nope. Didn't help, even with a 15-20C drop on the ICs. =/
I'll let it burn-in tonight, and hope I get a change. Who knows. Maybe the overclocking god will smile on me.

The saga continues:

Decided to back down to stock volts, and see how high I could get.
Primed for 8 hours at 2.4 last night, then brought it up to 2.5 this morning, going to let it sit 'till I get back from school.

With any luck, maybe I was pumping too much voltage in it for my own good, and limiting the overclock. =| Doubtful of that, but who knows. :)

No luck. Core 0 craps out after an hour @ 2.5
Humbug. Not sure what I can do at this point but buy another and sell this one on eBay.

Dave is probably the one that sold it to them :p

I'm not too worried about the F/S issue though, it was probably just a mistype, or I just got unlucky.

Regardless, TankGuys has some of the best customer service/contact I've ever been fortunate enough to experience; and that alone is enough to make me shop there again (If I don't buy from Dave whenever he gets some more 165 trays in :p)

loosen the memory timings this can help alot when overclocking the opty..it seems one maybe fine but if the other is weaker..loosening the timings can help max. OC

well, i suppose i could charge extra for the boxes to make them on parity with the trays....

dude, that's what i'm paying....if you knock 5% off the cost, that's what the distrib is charging me....yes, it's odd, but i've got no reason for it whatsoever. :)

trevor, what voltage did you use on the cpu, what was your ram timings too? i got the same cpu, currently running at a very low 2.34ghz @ 1.325vcore. i am happy at the current speeds, but i just wanted to know what kind of oc potential i have with this stepping.

thanks!

I could've sworn I read you mentioning you were helping them get some stock in.

Hrm...

And, UPDATE!

Beforehand, (when I first got it)
I had trouble running past 2.5Ghz.

Now....
Running @ 2.52 on 1.4v

Amazing, I know.

Pondering how high it will go.
Still not 'uber' like the 0550 UPMW/CCB1E 0551 VPMWs/but considering where it started.. I'm damned happy.

Also, Large FFT or blend o_O
Just testing CPU.
I'm going to run this for anothr ~30 minutes, then stop and stick it on large FFT then crash.

Yay for smiles from the overclocking god.

use small for maximum FPU test (harder on the CPU IMO), use Large for max heat

If i were to buy an Opty what would I want to look for to get the best 165 Opty. Im a little confused with all the abbreviations, Thanks!

I've seen the retail on new egg with a L1 cache of 64KB+64KB and the OEM has a L1 Cache of 128KB+128KB, what does this mean?

That's just a typo on Newegg. They're the exact same chip.

If I were you, I would go for the Retail Box one (It's cheaper, includes more stuff, warranty, &etc.) (Even if you plan on overclocking you still get to keep the HSF/etc.)
