I would not say it can't be done. Those chips are nice.

Yea I'm glad I picked one up when I could and not wait untill January 5th when they go off shelfs.

I got my 144 to 2.8, someone else here got their 146 to 3.0, so i suppose it would be possible to get a 148 to 3.2.

WOW now I can't wait to put mine together.

BTW... when Febuary of this year was here I was going to get a Pentium 4 3.2GHz. If I OC this to 3.2GHZ this would PWN that Pentium wouldn't it?

yeah, it would smoke the p4 at lower clocks, too. id say down to about 2.8, maybe 2.6

Yea just think how it will smoke a Pentium 4 2.66GHz I'm running now.

At 3.2 the Opteron would smoke a 4.6 PIV single core much less their fastest at 3.8ghrtz.

I changed my name from "TheKillerJKS" when I recieved my Opty. I had teh Opteron in my house when it was changed.

I would assume true also.
Im typing this on my Opty 148 thats doing 2.93ghz on air.

And my Opteron 170 dual core does 2.5 - 2.6 on air.
(still testing, it may go higher but not on air for this chip, one of my cores is a bit weak and needs more volts than i care to give it to go higher)

Now i just cant decide which one I like better.

But YES, the Opterons seem to clock high at low voltages.

TOTALLY believable.

I hope Zebo is right, cuz then for once i got a "good" stepping, i always seem to be the guy that gets the cpu's that end up being average. LOL

I was amazed at how easily my Opty 148 overclocked this high, it even boots and runs at 3.0ghz , but i just cant get it prime stable at a reasonable voltage. (well i never got it stable at 3ghz)
So im at 2.93 ghz @ 1.5v using the stock heatsink from my Dual core Opty (the one with the heatpipes and an adjustable 80mm fan@ about 3500rpm)

I was so impressed i bought an Opty 170 dual core, and ended up with my usual "decent"/ "average" overclock. (i'm putting this thing on vapochill, darn dual cores get hot!)

So yes, its luck of the draw as usual and i came out one and one..LOL (one good overclocker, one "average" overclocker)

I think it all depends on the luck of the draw with those chips, you might find one that doesn't overclock well and then another that does. 3.2 is impressive, my guess would be it's not stock air cooling, but it is possible.

I'm really excited now I only have 3 days untill I put this bad boy together and I DEFFINATLY WILL POST PICTURES!!!!!!
