I still dont know If I should ditch my venice 3200 for this. I would need to sell my venice. I would sell it for 115 I think. Its a 3200 @ 2550 in a MSI Neo 4 platinium I wonder if I could hit higher with this Chip.

Oi... Decisions. I'm looking at the Asrock 939 board, so no crazy overclocking, but I don't know if it's worth the extra few bucks to get the 148 over the 146. I can get the 146 for about $197 Canadian (insane), versus $280 CDN for the 148. What would (any of) you do? I'm so Opteron'd out, having discovered and researched this option over the past 2 days...

Is the extra 1x multiplier worth $100 for you? My feeling is no, but it's your decision :)

I'm an OC virgin, so I don't really have an informed opinion. Seeing as how the Asrock is merely an adequate overclocker, I would say no as well.

Thanks for the advice! BTW, I've been on your site several times over the past few days, thanks to you contributions in the various Opteron discussions I've been reading. You are definitely one of the most responsive and helpful etailers out there.

Couldn't resist, hopefully mine will ship sometime next week. So far I'm very impressed with the communication from the TankGuys after the order. PastorJay, how's the overclocking results so far?

got my CABYE 0540 FPBW from tankguys and have done just a little testing. right now it's at 2906mhz at 1.45v, OCCT stable running 32m pi right now. temps at load get up to 57 C which is way to hot for my liking. i guess my zalman 7000alcu is showing its age. at 1.45v i am able to clock it up to 3000mhz but it is not stable. i did a quick suicide attempt and upped the voltage to 1.58v and 3200mhz but didnt run any benchmarks since i know it will go over 60 C but his chip has potential once i can cool it better.

I got my retail 146 CABYE 0540FPBW from Monarch a week ago and have it priming at 2.9GHz. To be honest, it wasn't the cpu I had difficulty with, it was in persuading my PC3200 HyperX to hit the speeds I needed. I eventually got it to 243MHz @3-4-4-8-2T and using a 5:6 divider. I didn't have much success using the 2:3 divider on my A8N-SLI Deluxe.

So when I'm ordering my 148, CABYE 0540 is the one I should be asking for, if possible? The CABNE ones were the original FX stepping ones that aren't available anymore, correct? Trying to get this stepping straightened out in my head...

Thx

It most likely is. We don't have them in hand yet so I'm not positive, but our rep at the distributor said he's pretty sure they are CABYE's.

There are some recent cabne's but they dont appear to be any better than the cabye's.

Cabge's clock 100-200mhz lower. Mine has perhaps the weakest mem controller I've seen on 939. (I'm have trouble getting it 100% stable with 2 gigs @ 400 using a divider, haven't tried stock yet, but I'd assume it runs that fine.) Right now I'm running 2400mhz 9multi @ 150 divider with 2x1gig @ 1.25vcore. This puts my mem rght at 200mhz. I had a game crash after ~a week with read preamble at 6.0, so Im trying 6.5 now. I'd get a crash ~ 1 a day with mem @ 240mhz. So it's a really bitchy mem controller. I suspect I just got a weak chip though as no one else seems to be having the problems with these I am. I might grab a 146 or 148 now that the prces have dropped, or maybe just wait for 165's to come down into the 225$ area if they make it there before Intel's short piped duallies come out.

No, unfortunately not. I say this for two reasons: first off, we can't order specific steppings either. Second, it's hard enough keeping track of all the orders as it is, let alone matching orders to steppings... plus, how would we price that? Should we charge more for stepping XXXX than YYYYY? It's just too confusing :)

That said, we do typically notify you what stepping you're getting once we finalize the shipment. That way you've either got 3-4 days to celebrate or cry before it arrives :D

Well, since TankGuys are part of the AT community and answers all questions directed at them I will bite and order one from them. I hope I get a good stepping.
