Opteron 146 or A64x2 3800+?

i usually have itunes open, a chat program, and some other mic programs running in the background. which CPU would be better for speed/fps in gaming? i will be getting a 7800gt and a 1gb ram
 
It doesn't matter that much with a 7800GT. I assume you will be running high resoluations, so at those resolutions, the FPS will be limited more by the GPU than by the CPU. In conclusion, go with 3800+ or Opteron 165
 
Well, I dont leave itunes running, but here's my results:

I have a 3700+ oc'ed to 2.7ghz, 7800gt and I can run FEAR full details full res on my dell 2005 monitor no issues at all. The opty 165 should be able to reach and beat my oc
 
If you can get a 146 for $165, that has to be the best deal going right now. Granted it's single core, but for 1/2 price of a 165, to me that's a true bargain.

Problem is, no one has them for that price right now. You can pre-order a 146 form Tankguys, but he doesn't kow when they will actually be available.
 
i kinda wanted the opteron 165 dual core.. i dunno anything or even if it has a single core version? and i will be paying around 330 for it at new egg
