Hey guys, i recently picked up two clone CPU's (Opteron 146 CAB2E 0546FPAW), and I'm having difficulties overclocking one of them. The one i have on an eVGA SLI motherboard is getting up to 2.95 stable on air (running pretty hot though, so not trying any higher yet), and my ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe is getting the other opteron to only 2.8 stable. I would think the ASUS would go further, seeing that it has more OC options, etc. Maybe i'm just putting the settings in incorrectly? The ASUS system is also on air, but it's a zalman 7700cu, and it's running 30c/40c idle/load respectively. It deff shouldnt be a heat issue... but here are my settings:

SPECS:
Opteron 146 CAB2E 0546FPAW
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
2gb RAM (2x 512mb PC4000, 2x 512mb PC3200)
eVGA 7800GTX
Ultra X-Connect 500w Modular PSU
2x 36.7gb 10k Raptors in RAID0
2x 250gb 7.2k WD's not in raid

2gb DRAM @ DDR266 (2x 512mb PC4000, 2x 512mb PC3200) 3-5-5-10
280x10 HTT
3x hyp-trans
CPU Voltage @ 1.5 (Not sure why it's requiring this much)
DRAM Voltage @ 2.65

Might just be the chip's limit, even though they are the same stepping they aren't the exact same.

Try it in a different board but thats about all it seems you can do, looks like your at the limit to me, great overclock by the way on both chips though.

yeah, i'll try that soon.. I might just go with a DFI board soon, and if that doesn't do the trick.. im stuck at 2.8, but hey, nothing to look down at... it benches same as a fx-57

Paid $200 for each opteron vs $1000 for a single FX-57, and they bench the same, and are practically the same processor. I upgraded from a 3800+, and i saw a 35fps boost in Counter Strike Source Stress Test, and a 200pt boost in 3dmark05. Good stuff..
