Not to worried about not having SM 3 right now am more intrested is getting some more framerates in some of my games that run sluggish at 1280x1024 with all the eye candy turned on.

My X850XT can be overclocked past PE speeds but I dont do it. Im looking to try to trade my X850Xt and a Sony camera for a 7800gtx but if I can get a Opteron 144 to mad oc wouldnt that give me better performance then sticking with my 3200+ and a 7800gtx?

I tried to find a review with the 144 vs a a64 3200+ but couldnt do it so Im hoping someone out there can help out with my delema on what to trade.

Thanks in advance

the 7800GT will wipe the floors witht he X850XT.
If your sole concern is games, then by all means go for the 7800GT.
You can always overclock the CPU, the Venice's are decent (not Opterons, but they'll still do 2.5-2.7)

I think the video card upgrade will do more for your gaming performance.

I agree with the previous two posters, the 7800 GTX with the 3200+ will be a much better combination for gaming. My X800 GTO is unlocked and overclocked faster than a X850XTPE but it still has trouble at higher resolutions, expecially with AA/AF on, something the 7800 GTX will handle with ease.

Edit: Trevor, he said a 7800 GTX not a 7800 GT, big difference there.

I am just looking to trade no cash in hand and as far as the one post about the 3200+ overclocking thats the problem, it doesnt OC. I can go maybe 1 up on the fsb and then its total lock down.

I was hoping since I have seen the 144 go upto 3ghz that that big a diff from my 3200+ stock speeds would cancel out the increase dumping the x850xt for a 7800gtx with my current cpu.
