Lots of people have been asking us how our new batch of 144's are doing. I happened to have a bunch of boxes where the insides got shredded, so the processor and heatsink were rattling around - so I figured I better test them before selling. Well, I figured if I'm going to go that far, I may as well try and OC one :D

Now, I'm doing this "Quick and dirty". No prime testing, just quick jumps, running Super PI 32m. So it's only as "stable" as you feel SuperPi proves. At some point I'll run some prime testing, but time is a bit of a luxury right now...

So anyway, quick results:

2683 Mhz
1.40 Volts (Only 0.05 over stock)
36 Degress Load temp (Running with the stock AMD cooler - the heatpipe version)

I'll update after my next 32m run. I'm running @ 2835 but I haven't fully tested yet :D

Quick update too:

2860 Mhz SuperPi 32m stable. That's as high as she'll go at this voltage... I'm upping it to 1.425 to see what I can do.

Where did you get that info from? I got a 144 either one of the last weeks of 05 or first couple of weeks of 06 (forget already!) and it came with the regular crap heatsink...

What's the time @ 1M SP? Also speed of RAM...133, 166 and timing. 2.8 is excellent with stock voltage. The CPU should be stable around 2.7 to 2.75GHz.

It's hard to justify an Opteron when I can run the NF3 250 and Sempron 3100 at 2.44GHz for $86. However, I may engage when the price drops below $100. Just have to sell my 3000 Venice on the AX8 board.

Nope, they don't come with the heatpipe version - I just have a lot of them laying around from all the Opterons we've bought :D

Specifically, the one I'm using came from a "bad" 170 that works just fine.

I wanna bite on one of these so bad, but I just don't know how much of an upgrade from my Winnie 3200 @ 2.5ghz it would really be. I have tested my MB up to 302mhz HTT, so if I got a good chip I could easily see 2.7-2.85Ghz...What do you guys think? What is a used Winine worth these days? I have an Abit AV8 MB I could toss in for a buyer to sweeten the deal...

a used 3200 winnie is worth probably around ~$100 to $130. If you are going to sell it you better do it quick because conroe will kill those prices, but an extra 200-400 mhz isn't really worth the money spent. If your mobo only goes to 302 HTT you won't be able to OC very high because of the low multi on the 144. max OC would be 2.7.

Thanks for the info..Anandtech tested my MB up to 325 stable. I'm sure mine would break the 302 mark, I was just saying that I haven't personally tested it any higher. I am quite happy with my system, I just keep seeing all these posts about Opteron's, and it makes me want one as well ;). I usually upgrade once a year or so, and I everything in this rig is new except for my Winnie and my NeoPower 480, which were used in my last build. If I could sell this processor and the Abit MB for ~$140, I would basicly be breaking even, and still have a faster procsssor to play with. As long as I don't get a crappy one that won't at least clock to ~2.6Ghz, I would be happy.

Just being curious, but how did the insides of the boxes get shredded? Are you offering any discounts on these guys?;). How are the 146 series performing? I like the idea of having the 10X multiplier for only ~30 more, even tho my MB clocks pretty high.

I just got my 146 in today...and my board and ram will be in tomorrow. I'll crank it up when I get some time and post some results.

Oh the chip is a:

CACJE but 0607.
