Oppinions on Digital Cameras

I've recently been looking at some digital cameras. Whats a good camera by oppinion and good deal for about 200$? Thanks

You'll have a hard time finding a camera that is worth the money for $200--you can get closer by $300--$500 will really get you something nice...Focus on the lens--go for a camera with a Camera-company lens--I wouldn't buy a camera unless it had CompactFlash and CompactFlash II support, USB connection, at least 2.1 megapixels, optical zoom of at least 2x, and a decent quality lens.

This same question was asked in two previous threads except for they had a much more reasonable limit of $300. Good luck for $200 you're very limited to choices and really bad quality.

If your looking for a camera to replace a film type camera, 200 just aint gonna cut it. If this is what you want, your looking at at the very very minimum 500, more along the lines of 800 to 1k to really get a film-comparable camera. But if all you want is a camera for a quick shot of something, and dont want good quality or photo prints, then a 200 or 300 camera is a good starting point.

I totally agree. If xcannibalx can save more and double his budget up to $400 then a really nice camera is the Kodak DC4800 for $366 after rebate.

I bought the Canon Powershot Pro 70 about 2 years ago and have had pretty good luck with it.
The camera + flash cost about $900 total but it was well worth it...as I have used it for many occasions. The most 'popular' camera nowadays is the Nikon Coolpix. I didn't like the quirky fold down design of the lens barrel which is why I didn't buy it. I bought the Canon PS Pro 70 because of its solid 'feel' and its SLR like grip and TTL lens viewer.

I suggest you buy a camera with a minimum of 3 Megapixels and a 2X zoom. You will need Compact flash cards as well. Don't worry about USB connectivity and all that stuff...there are USB CF readers that you can get for about $40. I find it much simpler to pop out my CF card and then putting the card into my reader than to connect the camera to my computer via USB.

I suggest at least a 48 MB CF card...in noncompressed mode for my camera this can hold about 70 pictures.
