Opinions wanted: MSI 815ET Pro

Any opinions (from experience) on using the MSI 815ET Pro? I am looking for a mid-priced 815E chipset mobo to run a P3 @ 1.0 GHz, not o/c'ed.

Well for what it's worth, I've been using their 815 pro (model 6326 I think) with a PIII 933 for close to a year now. The board itself is pretty solid, the only problem that I occasionally have is when I power on the PC. Once in a while it doesn't post and hangs with the power and HDD LEDs lit, and I have to power down then back on again. Other than that, it's been problem-free.

Picked up the MSI 815ET Pro with a 900 celeron retail from newegg approx 3 weeks ago with the Visiontek Xtasy 5632 GEFORCE2 GTS-V 4X/2X 32MB. I had two 256MB of PC133 and Antec SX635 case (Antec fan in back that came with case and I had two enermax fans in front). I'm using the onboard audio. I run Win2k.The board installed easily. Temperatures have been very cool. I don't intend to overclock but the board is doing something strange. I checked the jumpers on the board that allow overclocking. I set it to auto rather than manual because I didn't want to overclock but when I powerup it says 1.33x9.00=1.2ghz. A friend has the same setup but win98. Same jumper settings. His read 100x9=900mhz. Maybe one of overclockers can explain it. I have had no lockups though. Temps read very cool but it could be the case and fans. Same friend does some gaming, etc. He has had problems with the game port using some sort of flight Sim controller (Thrustmaster). He's still working on it.

Hopefully, the info helps. There are a lot of AMD folks rather than intel users here so I don't know how many will respond. I didn't know much at all about AMD when I was going to build an AMD system for the first time but I got some really technically sound info from the generous AMD'ers. Maybe one of them will dig up some MSI/Intel info for you regarding the board.

Also, The board is no longer available at newegg but I can't say enough good things about fast shipping and excellent pricing. Watch the shipping. The mess with price and shipping sometimes hourly, but its up front and honest.

I just put one together 2 weeks ago,I thought it was a very nice MOB and I'm going to use it for all my P3 systems, the on board video is realy good ,and AGP for maga gamers
look for it at newegg.com they are out of stock now but they will get more in a few days , I paid $98
(DON'T GO WITH THE LIGHT THE PRO IS BETTER )

I built an MSI 815E Pro just over a year ago using a Celeron 566 Oc'ed to 850 using the onboard audio and video. that thing is STILL going strong without a hiccup. Pretty much the only difference between this and the 815ET is the chipset and Tualitin support. Good board 😀
