Ok, this would not be so difficult if the price was further apart.
I do not upgrade to much, I simply want an upgrade from my current KT266a/amd1600+ to be able to play HL2 without grenades causing me to drop to 9 FPS with my 9800 Pro 🙂
I will keep my video card for now. However when the price of the X800XT drops to a respectable price, I would like to upgrade to that(12-18 months?)

I have heard, read the DFI is pretty much the best board for s754, but would it be smarter to get the 939 option since it is $8 more 🙂


I would like to be able to attempt an OC on anyting I buy.

This may not be what you want to hear but, I would pick the Epox board. Its a solid OC'er, not as popular as the DFI's but performs very well. Here is a screenie for you but this is with a Prometia cooler on the CPU, but the board has no trouble going to 300FSB.

How about:
Soltek SL-K890Pro-939 and Winchester 3000

The board is just a little more expensive than the SL-K8TPro-939 but it will make your next planned upgrade (video card/X800XT) much easier.
 
Well, I couldnt go with SL-K890Pro-939 if I were to keep my 9800Pro.......BUT i have found someone willing to take it off my hands for the same price I can get a new 6600GT PCIe, so that does open up another door.

What's your RAM situation? If you have a matched pair, may as well go 939. If you end up selling the old video card, then it's a shoe-in for PCI-E
 
I need everything 😉 I do have 768Mgs of RAM, but it is of the PC2100 variety.
A week tomorrow and my 9800Pro is supposed to be sold(pay day hehe).
I will stick my 8500 back in my super fast 1600+ machine and suffer for awhile, see how the PCIe mobos pan out. Good thing I have a GPL racing league to keep me busy which runs fine on the 8500 🙂
Guess I have waited this long, cant hurt to wait a little more, see how the different companies do with their boards/bios. One thing I was not expecting was the added expense of a 24 pin power supply for many of the new mobos. (Soltek does have a 20 though)
