Opinions on when Barton chips will cause Tbreds prices to drop?

So when are the faster Tbreds gonna drop in price? The Bartons are starting to emerge and take their position as AMDs flagship CPU products. I am desperately waiting for the 333MHz FSB Tbreds to drop into the mid $1xx range. Will it happen soon or will I have to wait for the Hammer to come out?
 
we might see a 3200+ barton before hammer
but you can expect prices to gradually drop over the next few months
prob be a few price cuts there usually are
 
I don't think it will happen anytime soon, AMD is still pricing their XP line based on PR rating. Judging from the launch prices of the 2500+ (~$180-$200 for OEM parts), its gonna be a while before the 2600+ will hit mid $100's pricing. Besides, why would you want a 333mhz FSB chip anyways? Those who have them are turning them into 266mhz FSB chips in an effort to push the FSB higher 🙂

U would hv to wait another 2 mths for tht 333FSB CPU to drop into the $1XX.00 range. I would advise u...perhaps to take a look at 2400+ (266FSB). It's priced competitvely & running it @ 333FSB is not probs.
 
I would really suggest getting the 1700+ t-bred "B". I have two that both run 2100MHz at 1.80-1.85v. They are very cool and fast, unlocked by default so 333MHz fsb speeds are easy. They are on pricewatch for less than $60 shipped!
 
I wanted to get a 333MHz FSB Tbred because I was unsuccessful at unlocking my Palomino AXP 1900+. And my Epox 8K3A+ doesn't autounlock Tbreds. I was hoping to keep this mobo for as long as possible as it is really fast and stable. Plus it has IDE RAID onboard.

If I was able to get a 333MHz FSB Tbred AXP I would be set for quite a while. If I could get one cheap I'd be in hog heaven. 🙂
 
Are you sure it won't give you 6.5X to 12.5X by default? I have them running on an Abit KG7 and an MSI 745 Ultra and that's what I got on both.

You are saying on your KG7 that you have unlocked multipliers from 6.5 to 12.5 on a Palomino AXP?
 
Ahh, ok. Sorry to have misunderstood.

Maybe I'll put up another thread and ask other 8K3A+ owners what they are running and if they have unlocked multipliers by default.
 
$50-$55 for T-bred/B's that are capable of 1.9gig-2.2gig, what more do you want? I can remember buying 200MHz chips for $100 and I thought I was getting a good deal.
 
If your problem on the Pal was joining the L1 bridges, they are joined already on the TBBs.

Older mobos did not control the 5th multiplier bridge, because when they came out Athlons had only 4. As result only the 4 lower bits of the multiplier code are set by the mobo. If your TBB comes with a multiplier of 13 or higher (2100+), the 5th multiplier bit is always high (5th bit of L3 open), meaning you can only set the multiplier code to high multpliers (13 or more), without a mod. If your TBB comes with a multiplier of 12.5 or lower (11x for 1700+), the 5th multiplier bit is always low ( 5th bit of L3 closed) , meaning you can only set the multiplier code to low multpliers (below 13), without a mod.

Search on johncar or soulkeeper. johncar has a lot of pages on this on his site. You really should be able to unlock a Palimino also.
 
Historically, AMD chips drop gradually over time and don't rely on price cuts like Intel chips, which seem to hold their value even better than Hondas.

I wanted a fast 333MHz fsb chip 🙂 . As I said, I did try to unlock my Palomino AXP but it was fruitless. I think the compound I used was either too old or too thick. I tried many times and the bridges appeared to be connected properly (with no blobs shorting between 2 bridges). In the end I just gave up. But if I can buy a cheapo 1700+ TBB and get 11x 166MHz for a CPU speed of 1.826GHz I'd be pretty darn happy. Is this likely?
 
You're right. The Tbreds are FAR too expensive at the moment. I live in Europe, but in the U.S. things aren't that different. Intel lowered its prices yesterday.

For example, the AMD Athlon XP 2600+ retails around ?30/$30 more than the Pentium 4 2,66 GHz does. Because AMD's ratings are more aggressive for the higher parts, the 2600+ is simply way too expensive. I just bought a 1700+. Although friend parity lies at the 2400 level, the $100 I save, can I spend for a possible holiday.

In my opinion, the higher Tbreds will drop when the Intel P4 2,66 GHz chip will be sent to gulag.
