Opinions on the new Startrek series???

The problem isn't at all about the writing. It's about the networks and specifically Paramount/Viacom. They have zero interest in producing a new space series because it costs too much money. Don't look for any hope in a new series for a very long time, at least not while Les Monves is running things, as he hates trek and killed Enterprise himself.

They never made the spinoff about Wesley and the Traveller like they said they would. There was a TNG episode when Wesley left with the Traveler and went to join him in his weirdness. I remember reading that they would make a series out of that but it is probably way past its time anyways.

Wesley Crusher was a blight on the otherwise untarnished image of TNG. He was the lamest character of them all. What the hell was up with that gay pride rainbow belted suit that he used to wear? Or the tight fitting grey one that would never zip up completely in the back? Lame!

I know everyone is sick of the Borg, but a series say 200 ~ 300 years past TNG & involving the Borg would be great, think massive war for the first year of the show, after that another race from the edge of the universe with some bad ass weapons.

Maybe they should do one where the foxus is on a different race instead of the Federation. COuld have a show that is about the Kilingons or the ROmulans or something. That'd be interesting.

Again that wouldnt' work. I mean you might get the startrek fans, but Startrek needs to broaden out to other fans that are not regular trekki fans. The more audience Startrek can pull the longer Startrek world wll survive.

I mean if you like sci-fi give it a try. Yea supposely there making a new series but wont' come out till about 2 yrs or so. If want to give it a try I suggest Deep Space Nine.

You might be write. But it is the writing as well. I remember reading articles that evertime startrek did a war type episodes it had the highest rating. Let's admit, people like that kind of stuff. The drama, action and what not. I mean look at the shows CSI. I mean it's fake but yet people watch it like crazy. And the hell with Les Moonves. That fool marrying a mail order bride that asian chick lol. But if that's true I hope he ends up losing his job, get cancer lol jk. Or hopefully they can move to a different net work.

No more in the past crap. I read that if the next Startrek series is made, it's going to be further in the future. Which would be better. Borg is a good enemy but they been played out I think. Unless they change them, but if they do that it won't be the borg.

Star Fleet Academy type show
or Star Trek rebellion type show post-world war whatever, Federation destroyed but pockets of rebels fighting back with a focus on one of them going through the galaxies finding more rebels and build up to a huge invasion into the heart of the enemy territory). yes, very Star Warsy/Firefly-y, but hey...it worked 🙂

in any case, what it really needs is one overall arc throughout the season like DS9. that really kept me hooked.

All the different Star Treks don't even come close to what Firefly was. 🙁

I dunno but I never seen firefly. I dont think it will beat out DS9. I mean firefly didn't last more than a season. So...😛

One thing that I've always thought would be interesting is the pre-zephram cochrane era. The earth at war and all the events that lead up to a final nuclear war. But they probably won't do anything like that.

Maybe it's like to much like BSG. Yes more war but I dunno about rebels trying to fight back. Also it's too much like STAR WARS. It wouldnt work in my opinion.

hmm, didn't know BSG does that also (haven't seen it myself). i felt if firefly can do the idea well, it could be done again with a different spin. The Federation has always been much too strong (even in DS9). i'd like to seen them on the under-dog side of the story.

how 'bout a parallel univers Star Trek, where the Federation is evil? but redeemed in the end (b/c i don't think they'd have to balls to run a show where the main characters are bad)

trek atleast for me was at its best in the later seasons of DS9, if they can bring some of that feeling to the new show then you would have something.

its what they should of done with enterprise to begin with, they had all this temperol war crap where the series should of been about the romulan war

A Star Fleet Academy show might be interesting, but it wouldn't keep the fans unless it was close to the style of the old shows.

I would also say that a new series would need to push the boundaries more. More action scenes, more drama, more sex, more of everything except what we have come to expect from a star trek series. It will need to shock us to succeed.

you mean more like BSG?

A story based on the future w/ the time traveling ships, (The Equinox?) would be pretty cool. Gives unlimited creative room. I agree there should be a central storyline but it shouldn't be for every episode, this will drive away mainstream appeal since people just hopping on mid season will be confused.

Add more weapons and action, no more phasers (boring!).

West Wing, Desperate Housewives, ER, Gray's Anatomy, Lost, 24 all have episode spanning story arcs and are all successful shows. DS9, starting in the 3rd season or so, had a large story arc that spanned until the end of the series. Of course there were some "stand alone" episodes that had little/no impact on the overall story arc.

A series focusing on aliens would probably be too expensive unless there was little or no makeup needed (i.e. it focused on Vulcans as opposed to Klingons). The fake noses/ears/heads/etc., that they actors wear can only be worn once. Plus it probably takes a few hours just to get all the makeup done for a Klingon.

No that wouldnt' work. It needs a new different style to attract more audiences.
