Opinions on the movie Blade Runner saw it yesterday...

I like it... I dont know if I would put it in my top 5 movies of all time but it was good. I really liked the style of the movie, couldnt believe it was made in 1982. On the levels of imagery and symbolism it had a lot and that was pretty cool. A very good symbolistic theme oriented movie. Now I finally know where the hell the last soundbite of the movie came from in one of my techno/trance mp3s.

I agree...a masterful piece of Sci-Fi. A Clockwork Orange wasn't a box office smash either...yet you cannot deny that it is superior Sci-Fi.

Well put chrisjor, I think the main issue to look past is "how successful" the movie was at the box-office and just take the movie for what it is, a motion picture that moved you or made you look at things in a different manner 🙂

Well put yourself......a perfect definition of the affect that, A Clockwork Orange, Fahrenheit 451, Slaughterhouse 5, 1984, and other "true" Sci-Fi classics have on a person. George Lucas should go back to the roots and forget about the money (he has enough!!!). Refering to the fact the newer Star Wars series are garbage, of couse. Dune....ahhh...now that's entertainment!!!

I tried watching it once and become so unbelievably bored I lost all motor control and fell off the couch flopping like a fish out of water. I spent 1 month in boredom rehab trying to recover from my traumatic boredom experience.

Years later the movie was deemed a Sci-Fi cult classic so I tried to watch it again. This time I went into a boredom coma and did not awake for quite some time. Clinton was in office at the start of the movie when I awoke Bush jr. was president.

It has a very good plot, story line, dialogue, acting, and great three dimensional characters. I believe there are two or three versions which one did you see?

The only part I really disliked was the way they played that goofy music whenever something technological was going on. Oooh the car is flying, nevermind the grity cyberpunk atmosphere of the movie, lets play music the reminds you how wonderous it is that we can make it look like a car is flying or a dark screen is coming down over a window. Yeesh, ruins the feel of the movie for me.

If you think its great now, imagine how it looked back in '82. I had my Technology professor watch it then and he was blown away...he planned to use it in one of his classes.
Its not a cyberpunk movie at all, though its often portrayed that way. The story its based on asks some very deep (for a "sci-fi" movie) questions, which we as a society have yet to answer...like what is the line between human and not, and do we have the right to create life, and for what purpose? The soundtrack by Vangelis was entirely suitable I thought. It still stands out as a great film that spawned many copies, as well as pretty much defining a style.
If you think its boring, you must have ADD or something...this is a much better film than average, especially in the so-called science fiction genre, which is loaded with pure crap, like Star Wars and Star Trek.

No it was boring as all hell. The one thing I remember is that Harrison Ford was banging a robot. Thats gotta be hard on the old one eyed monkey.

Great movie with great themes. What makes us "human".....a question that will be pondered for eternity 😕

Hmm...you must not have read the warning label before you watched the movie:

Blade Runner: Not suitable for those with an IQ under 100 and an attention span less than 15 minutes. This movie does not depict ANY scenes of nudity or sexual content, and may contain language and themes that confuse small children. Enjoy the show!

Making sense of any Spielberg movie is not an accomplishment. His greatest strength is the ability to masqueraded obviousness for "deepness"

ViperXX - I feel yah man. That movie was boring as hell. Everytime it comes on TV I cringe. It's the same feeling I get when MASH would come on after Three's Company. Absolute horror. Anyhow if I wanted to watch a movie about robots and people I'd pop in T2 😛 .

I saw the Director's Cut.

What in God's name does this mean? I mean, seriously, what does it mean? Seriously!
Symbolistic theme oriented movie. heh Well lets see, there are several I can think of the eyes, the animals, the chess game, and the religious themes.

My idea of a excellent and in my book the best movie made is The Matrix. I love that movie. That's what Sci-Fi is all about.

Now Blade Runner was made for the Nerd impaired, maybe that's why you enjoyed it so much.
