Opinions on the '03 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder

I'm thinking of buying one of these while Mitsubishi is running its 0 down, 0 payments, 0 interest special.


Anyone have experience with this car?

The GS model with leather goes for about $25,957. Not cheap. Worth it?

has a/c and heat
has radio
goes from a to b

con:
kinda a girlie car
too much body armor
plastic gas cap (or did they change that?)
see plenty of them

If you like it... get it. Don't let people change your likes or dislikes because of what they like or don't like
 
Do not get that car...that car is a POS....there are so many probs with Mitsu it's not even funny. My friend just bought a 02 V6 GT eclipse...in 2 weeks he said i should'be bought a WRX instead. check out the link below

For $25g's you could get a very nicely equiped year or two old Mustang Cobra Convertible. I'd take that over the eclipse any day.

i just picked up an 02 celica gt-s loaded for 21500 (sticker price 25000)
check out that car, very quick car and fun to drive too (6 speed is quite fun)

C&D just did a 5-car comparison test and and the Eclipse and Celica GTS tied. I personally think that the Eclipse looks like ass (C&D says that is looks to Pontiacy😉). But the Celica GTS is gutless down low.

I'd personally choose an RSX.
 
I'm in the market for a convertible, and I really like the style of the eclipse spyder. I firmly disagree that it looks like a chick's car.

I think it's the nicest, "affordable" convertible on the market.

I don't want a 2-seater, and I'm not really a fan of the Mustang.
I don't like the Sebring, Saabs, or VWs.
I think the Firebird is nice, but very pricy.

Thats the way to go. You can get an RSX type S for what you want to spend on the Eclipse. I test drove a type S and it is sweet as hell. Plus it is a much higher quality car as far as looks, craftsmanship and performance.
 
I drive an Eclipse GT. If you do buy the Spyder, DO NOT get the GS. The car is HEAVY and the I4 will feel sluggish in comparison to the V6.

Also, get the 2003 GT-S because the engine has been redesigned.

Personally, I see WAY more chicks driving Celicas than Eclipses. Another thing about Celicas is that they have NO balls off the line. They're very light, VERY noisy at highway speeds and you have to drive them like you stole them to get them to perform.

The Eclipse is a lot more chill, and should be considered a "cruiser".
 
Oh yeah. In the looks department, you either like the Eclipse or you don't. BUT there's a reason why it's the second-best selling sports car in the nation.

And unlike the others, the GT (V6) makes up the majority of sales. The majority of Celica owners drive the neutered GT, not the GT-S.

Dude, pretty much all convertibles are essentially two seaters. Ask someone to get in the back and see their reaction, if they don't knock you out or slap you and actually try to squeeze back there, you will hear complaining for the entire trip.

By the way, I'm not a fan of the mustang either. Too many people think they are such sweet rides but I think they're ugly as hell and underpowered and disgusting.

I'm not sure if I can afford the GT man. They start at about 31k where the GS is at $26k 😱
 
I was considering the Mitsubishi Lancer, but after reading reports and friends saying their brand new Mitsubishi breaking down, I thought it wasn't smart to go with Mitsubishi. If you have money to burn, go for it, but if u need this car to be reliable for many years, I wouldn't go for it.

Oh my god. You were considering the Lancer? That thing is a POS. It's not even the real lancer. At 120hp, you'll only be laughed at by those who know cars.

Come back in a year and tell us how your gt-s is holding up. Don't get me wrong - it's a great car, but check out any celica board and see what people have to say about their year-old+ celicas. Rattling, creaking, etc.
