Well, since your insurance is likely covering this 100% you have no excuse for not getting it done. If they do determine that you have apnea, go ahead and get the machine. Trus me, it's going to make a world of difference. I used to be tired all the time, even when I had 8+ hours of rest, and now I can easily get by on 4-5 hours.

I had a sleep study to diagnose my sleep apnea back in the early 90s.

Easy. Just get connected to the sensors and then fall asleep. Wake up 8 hours later and go home.

5 years later, I had my tonsils out and my sleep apnea is almost 100% gone. It was so bad before I got my breathing machine, my test revealed my O2 rate would drop below 90% when I was sleeping. People who have been dead for 3 hours have more O2 in their blood...

Q: Do these help in any way.

A: Yes. Sleep studies can diagnose central or obstructed sleep apnea and depending on the degree of apnea, it means you would really benefit from wearing a positive airway pressure mask (BiPAP, CPAP) machine at night. They can take some getting used to but most people who use them as prescribed feel better and more refreshed throughout the day.

BTW - polysomnographers/ists make decent money and the work is very, very boring and mundane. I had to do several nights as a requirement for my respiratory therapist degree and I couldn't wait until it was over every night.
