One last question I PROMISE lol. I am about to order my new rig, and I was just thinking. The seagate 7200.10 perp. write hd is supposed to be pretty fast, and I was wondering if a raptor was necessary, or worthwhile. It would probably load my os and games a tad faster, but the more and more I read it doesn't seem like there will be that much of a difference between the wd raptor and seagate barracuda. I was thinking of ditching the $160 raptor and spending an extra $100 on getting a 512 meg version of the x1900xt, just in case in the future more games go with uncompressed textures etc. You think this would be a worthwhile change, or will the raptor be a better investment than a 512 meg 1900xt as opposed a 256 meg 1900xt. Thanks!

Don't get the raptor, please. Rather, spend the extra on the asus p5d deluxe. Big boost in oc performance. Or just save your cash.

Wow, just read an article comparing a raptor to the perp, the speed of the raptor only shows in a handful of tests. I got rid of both hard drives and picked up a seagate 7200.10 320 gig. Maybe i'll ditch the gigabyte board for the asus p5b deluxe as it got really good ratings. What does everyone think of the 256 meg vs 512, I know it may not be a big deal now, but in a few months I don't want to have to upgrade.

I have a lcd 1280x1024 max res, I think a 256 should be fine, but I'm just thinking for future games, I want the card to last me at least a year with good quality settings. I added a p5b delxue instead so I heard with the new bios flash you can crossfire so maybe i'll go 256 and if I ever need more i can just get another 1900xt 256 and sli them. THen have 512 and two gpus.

the stronger the videocard is, the longer it will last you. but stay within your budget. what is your target price for a vid card, and how much do you want to save $100?

example of how multi-card upgrades stink:

i have an sli mobo and 1 7800gt. i could get a minor performance bump, and sli issues, from adding another 78 for roughly $300. the same $300 would get me a 7950gt and a major performance boost and greater reliability with a single card.

One thing that I have to add is that if you're looking for a quiet, stable PSU with good rails, little ripple and good effieciency, take a look at the Enhance 5150gh (500W) at eWiz. If you go through froogle you can save a buck or two.

Anyway, it is the same as the Silverstone ST50EF-PLUS which JG reviewed on his site. Mine is powering a rig almost the exact same as yours will be (DS3, E6600, 1900xtx) and it is rock solid with the cpu OC'd to 3gig (will push it more later).

You most likely haven't heard of Enhance because they generally just make the power supplies for other companies to rebadge, but they are definitely a tier A manufacturer.

Stick with the Enermax!!
Enhance is a good brand but so is the Enermax.
The Enermax could also be considered a "Teir A" PSU!!
There is no ned to change PSU`s based on fanboi-ism which is based on nothing more than brand loyaltie...

Then we have another issue...
The Enhance 5150gh (500W) is the same as the Silverstone ST50EF-PLUS....really?
There is no difference whatsoever?
No difference in CAPs or other parts inside the PSU?

Stick with the Enermax you will be happy!!

Keep the Enermax. There's nothing wrong with the Enhance psu's, but they aren't Enermax, either.;)

Are you saying that the enermax is superior to the enhance? I will fight you on that one!:D Seriously... which one LOOKS of better quality?
Enermax
Enhance
The sinks are much bigger on the enhance, they use teapo caps, has a 120mm fan for quiet operation... you get the idea.
BOlt where did you get a $150 7900gs?

Exactly. I'm not saying that the Enermax is bad, but from everything I've seen the Enhance is at least as good of quality and costs less than pretty much any Enermax out there. You can go ahead and get the Enermax and you'll be fine, but you'll be as well off with the Enhance and have a little more money in your pocket. If you doubt the quality of the enhance PSU's take a look at JonnyGuru's review of the 5149gh and the Silverstone.

I would get the Enrmax.....
More fan boi-ism...both PSU`s will hold there own!!

Ok got rid of the Asus p5b ($222) and got the gigabyte ds3 (146) and with the savings uped to the true color 512 meg ddr3 x1900xt. The gigabyte got good reviews, and I realized the price difference on the asus board isn't worth it to me because I wont use some of the extra features. My goal was to stay under $1300 total. With my setup I am at $1296 I had to choose corsair xms2 2x1gb since that's what most with the board recommend since ocz allegedly is hit and miss.

The final build is here, I'll wait for another 20 mins or so to make sure I'm not seeing any incompatibilities that some who own/know of the board might know of, otherwise here is what I went with:

Final Build:

Gigabyte ga-p965-ds3
2 gigs corsair xms2
enermax noisetaker version 2 (485w)
Coolermaster Centurion 5
seagate barracude 7200.10 sata 3gbps
asus eax1900xt 512 meg ddr3
intel core 2 duo e6600 (2.4ghz)

I see your already gonna go the INtel route which is fine.

But to another point you talked about. An AMD 64 x2 4600 can be overclocked to 3.0ghz on air cooling and still run stable. Couple forums have produced these results, some of the overclocking ones, Extreme Overclocking i think.

Anyway, i just purchased my AMD system and am happy with it. x2 4600, MSI K9N Diamond with a EVGA 7900 GS KO 256 mb 256 bit card.
