I am pretty neutral on ECS myself. I don't hate them and I don't love them. They are just a decent budget choice. I prefer MSI.

OS, no, you need to cut the Standby rail while leaving the other power rails on. Difficult to do if you don't want to cut a wire ...

RTC stands for Real Time Clock, the functional unit that happens to also contain the 114 bytes of CMOS RAM where BIOS keeps its settings. Same thing ever since the first IBM PC-AT came out.

Unfortunately I had a bad k7s5a too
I don't think its an inditment of the whole company I had some other boards with no problems forget what they were now.
Its just that one particular board was dirt cheap everybody got sucked in and lots of people have trouble with it.
I dumped mine got a Epox instead no probs , Guy here at work got one flailed away with XP till he dl'ed the latested NIC drivers.
That one board is just too damn fussy.

Never really been happy with the quality of the mobo. Won't buy ECS again.

I had the k7s5a, and 2 of them were DOA. But that was back before any revisions. I recently got one that was newer and it worked the first time and has been very stable. Usually a good rule with motherboards is you get what you pay for. If you spend the extra $50 you will probably have a much easier and stable time. But if your a hardware guy who likes fooling around go for it.

Although a batch of k7s5a's had major problems as you stated other ECS motherboards are very reliable and even the k7s5a is now reliable as well with no more hardware problems.
