Considering its a dodge, do you think the reliabilty/resale would still be poor comparable to a 2000-2001 s2000? (depending on the previous owner)

For sure... Honda has one of the highest re-sale value and reliability in the business... Most Dodge cars' re-sale values are crap...

I heard that they break down quite frequently. Probably it's because people abuse the car, thinking it's a real sport car.

Shrug, I like the styling better than the new WRX styling, as for reliability, I have loved Dodge 4 cylinders for a long time, and NOBODY has turbocharged more cars than Chrysler. I have gotten over 200k miles out of every dodge 4 cylinder I have ever owned.

I have a PT GT with the mopar performance Stage I kit, buy an SRT-4 you will not be disappointed, but alot of the S2K owners you smoke from redlight to redlight will be.
I think the evo & wrx are ugly as well... I'd never spend $30k on a car that looks like those.

Lots of power and very easy to get more out of it. Handles pretty good and has great brakes. The 2.4l turbo has been around for awhile in Mexico and is over built and should hold up pretty well. Chrysler knows how to build turbo engine since they have built more than anybody. The grear box is suppost to be pretty heavy duty too and the 04s have a quaife lsd. The only problems I have heard are all minor. Resale is unkown but I doubt its going to be anywhere near as bad as people on here seem to think. It is a low number high performance car and people will want to buy them later. Most of the people on this board are very biased against domestics so you have to take everything you hear here with a grain of salt.

If you can get past the street racer looks (remove the wing and they look a lot better) then go for it. I'd probably go for a Mustang GT though just because its a RWD car but I'd love to have that 2.4l turbo engine. It would kick butt in my 89 turbo caravan 🙂.

BTW 04 srt-4 stock dyno run 248hp and 270ft-lbs at the WHEELS. Says its stock anyway.

Most on here are import fanboiz, so that being said I would suggest that if you like the car enough...get it.

On another note, I own a 1999 Neon Sport and have YET to have a problem with it. Its just as reliable as any other car I've owned, and even better than some. Just keep up on preventative maintenance and you will be right as rain.

I say you head over to the srt-4 boards and ask for advice there. Besides for the fanboys, you should be able to find some people who'll give you the good/bad of the car. There are just too many vanilla neon haters here 😛

If you want performance/price, get a used Z28 or Mustang 5.0.

They are a far better performance vehicle at a fraction the cost.

Not that the SRT-4 isn't a fast little car, but there is far better for far cheaper.

Viper GTS

g3t it, itz mAd tYt3 y0!

Seriously, of all the cars you could throw your money at ... why an SRT-4? And if you spend so much time driving, maybe you want something with an mpg rating over 20 😛

it's not that bad looking, i'd never get it simply cause it was a neon though....haven't heard to much about the reliability either

If your gonna get a dodge, just buy a Viper 😉

No, just kidding, as far as the turbo four bangers, I like WRX's.

Check with your insurance company before you sign anything. Also Vic's posts should be very helpful as they are right on.

It's pretty nice car, although I'm not crazy about the styling like most of you. It's definately quick though... you can definately feel the boost come in... I went for a ride in one... very comfy seats... the power is pretty amazing. You don't expect it from a glorified Neon.

I would trade my Contour SVT for one in an instant. Took me a little while to get used to the fact that its a neon, but im over that. I think theyre awesome.

I had a crap Neon for five yers and treated it very poorly; did not have a single problem with it at all. As was mentioned, so many people here are import fans and probably never driven a Neon and only know what they know by reading some Ricer magazine.

Dodge does have great turbos, and a lot of their aftermarket parts are actually covered by the warranty if you get them installed at a MOPAR shop. That is actually pretty awesome.

I would say go for it, don't let the people here talk you out of it.

I'm really considering getting this car, simply because of the price/performance aspect.
I'm not a fan of the neon styling, or the wing, but this car is very impressive for the money spent.
I need a fast car, and my other options before noticing this car were used s2000's (2000-2001).
Any opinions on the styling here? I've heard people say they like it.

It's the best car in its class and best performance car for the dollar!

Especially the 04 models.

yes it's ugly.. yes it's still just a neon.. yes it's only FWD, but man it's a beast. <y brother has an 04 on order. Can't wait to drive it.
