I'm thinking of getting a video card for around $100 or less. What are your thoughts on the two crucial products? Other recommendations? Not much gaming if any, mostly web surfing and word processing.

How about a Gainward GeForce3 Ti200 64mb card from Newegg.com $90 shipped...They make great cards especially for 2D use....not too bad for casual gaming too....

Edit: I've not used the ATI 8500 series but they would be most excellent I'm sure. I have had a Gainward and was very pleased with the stabilty of the card/drivers......

The 9700s are fine. The 8500s are crap with really slow memory.

Yeah, slow memory! Go figure!

There are better 8500s out there, meaning most of them.

Thanks Mucker and Tenoc. I went to the new egg reviews for the Gainward GeForce 3 Ti200 and although I admit to not having read them all, I read enough to know that would be a good choice. Thanks for the help. That's why AnandTech is so great for newbies!

How about an ATI RADEON 9000 Pro with 128MB? It's around $100 and is pretty good for gaming, too.:)
