So here`s what i want to buy(well not really to buy but i`ll give my laptop in exchange to this computer):
Abit AA8 DuraMAX
Pentium 4 630 - 3000 Mhz (2MB L2 cache, 64 bits, sse3 )
Gigabyte X800Xl
2x 512 DDR2 OCZ pc6400
TR xp90 + enermax 92 mm
DVD-RW Plextor PX-716A t3
Seagate 160 GB 8 MB cache+NCQ
Case Akasa Eclipse 62
Enermax 465W

What do you think of this rig. I`ll trade my Hp pavilion zv6000(sempron 3000, 2x256ddr, 40gb, radeon xpress 200m) on it.
Will it worth it ?

intel p4 < amd64
gigabyte passive cooling running at 159f while gaming i know i was looking into it for myself bad idea get at least sumthing with a fan. ddr2 a big no no because amd64 has no ddr2 boards. than a xp-90 with enermax fan get a panfolia than we go down to the dvd burner gonna have to say no to that and replace with NEC 3254A the only thing i think you really gor right is um ur hd. stay at the forums for a month and you will know exactly what you want i know it sounds like along time but its worth the wait if you were to buy that system you would feel like an idiot after looking at some amd64 benchmarks.

w00t i know all about amd64 performance and stuff as i have two a64 rigs at home. I was just wondering if this rig wil be good for some time. The processor can hit 3.8gigs at stock voltage fully stable and it`s kinda cold(i don`t know about the temps at 3.8 but at 3.0 it is 37degrees celsius in idle). I don`t have an a64 alternative to it cause i can trade my lappie just for this system. So what do you think of it ?
Anyway i think i will trade it because i don`t really need a laptop, it stays on my table all day long.

If you really don't need the lappy, this should be a bit better... It has more RAM, HDD space, better video...

Of course you could always sell the CPU/mobo/RAM and get an A64, but whatever, that is just me.

Edit: What are you using this PC for?

I use it equally for : photoshop, 3dsmax, maya, video editing, games, web surfing. That`s why i can`t really decide on a64 or p4. Anyway i think this rig can handlle any game at 1024x768 mid to high details as i`m playing far cry on my laptop and it runs just fine.

amd 2.0GHz times 9 (which is the instructions per clock) equals 18.
intel 3.0GHz times 6 (which is the instructions per clock) equals 18.

amd 2.0 > intel 3.0 because of the on die memory controller, and the super fast fsb, and the cool temps, and the high speed cache, and the overclockability, and the forward compatibility, and the..............

Yes, an A64 would be faster, but you have to look at what he is going to upgrade from. A P4 will probably be a little faster than a sempron rated at the same speed. This rig will have more RAM and hard drive space. It will have better video as well.

The shortcomings of the presscott are easily overcome by the rest of the plusses. Again, if you really don't use the laptop as a laptop (just sits on your desk anyways), then this system will be better in every way except maybe power consumption and heat...

I guess you could also Sell the mobo, CPU, and RAM (you may be able to fetch $300, depending on the motherboard) and upgrade that. Get a DFI Ultra-D, 3000+ venice, and 1GB corsair. All in all you are spending about $50 for the entire system...

That`s a good ideea SrGuapo: selling them and replacing them with a64. But who knows, maybe i`ll be satisfied with the p4 :). The rig will be here on friday and i`ll see then what i`m gonna do.

If you don't need a laptop, why not replace it with a superior desktop? I'm a amd fan too, but this seems like a no-brainer to me...

Aren't you trading a laptop for a desktop?

If i've got it right then I think it's a good idea.

Yes i`m trading that laptop for the p4 desktop. And all i wanted to know was if the configurations of the desktop is ok. Do you think it can compete with a venice 3000+ and a geforce 6600gt at gaming ? If yes, i`ll keep it :)

With that graphics card a barton 3000+ could compete with a venice 3000+/6600GT. In short, yes.
