Using her Cd Rom, floppy, monitor, speakers, mouse and keyboard...all pretty new...

I would appreciate all input on this and will follow up all opinions..

Thx Bulls

She will be using Windows ME Jack and the only gaming on this PC will be by my kids Happy if all goes well I am going to build me a gaming machine next month hehe.....

Thx Bulls

The reason I didn't go with the duron was because the price difference from a duron 950 OEM to a 1.2 ghz Athlon was only 27 dollars plus the retail version has 3 year warranty...

Thx Bulls

That's very similar to a system I was thinking of putting together for my folks. They don't need a new video card or hard drive, so they would be saving that money, and I was oscillating between suggesting that 1.2 GHz retail CPU and a Duron 900 MHz Cpu with an OEM fan for $73 (including fan and shipping). That was only a $30 difference to get the faster, better CPU that you mentioned, so I don't know which way I'll push them.

Good case.
Good mobo.
Alright video card. If she doesn't play games then honestly you could/should grab an integrated board or if you really want seperate get a plain-jane 16mb Trident card. She won't notice the difference.
1.2Ghz? Does she really need that. I'd say go for a Duron 750 because it's the cheapest out there. My mom is still on a K6-2 366Mhz and is completely satisfied.
I don't recommend IBM at all. Stay away from them, and for a regular user get a 5400rpm. They don't need blazing fast stuff.
Modem is fine.

Just basically tune down the system some. If you were buying a car for your mom would you get her a Ferrari? I think not.

Thx alot for the quick responses guys. You are right maybe this is to much for mom and the grandkids but I kept looking around and the difference between a make her happy system and one she could play around with for years wasn't that much so I kept 10 dollaring it here and there to make it upgradable just in case. But maybe I stretched it a bit. What is the best all in one MB out there?

Thx Bulls

I would say keep all that but maybe switch the IBM to maxtor since IBM has been kinda unreliable these days....keep the 7200rpm....its better in the long run and not much of a price difference compared to a 5400rpm.

The 60GXPs are a newer model and don't have the same reliability issues as the 75. I myself have one and it runs great. There's a thread from a few days ago where someone asked for comments on this drive, if you want to check that.

First off I would like to thank all of you for your time. If I could go a different direction for around 250-300 I would look into it.
But I've seen nothing to scare me away from any of the parts I've chosen except the HD which I'll probably change. I'd like
a little flexiblility and I guess this will do. I will probably be on here in a week or so asking someone how the crap I get
this puppy to boot up but the way I look at it a virgin never knows what it is like so here I go.......

Thanks again guys take care Bulls
