Opinions and holes...

Everyone has them and I want to hear yours. I'm looking around for the *BEST* HSF out there for a t-bird. I'm currently using a piece of crap and it's barely keeping my cpu stable at the rated speed let alone anything overclocked. I've read a few reviews but can't seem to find anything definitive as to what would sway me to buy one HSF over another. The current contenders that I have looked into are the FOP 38 (noise isn't a problem for me since I could care less about it), the Taisol tbird 1.2G HSF, the Alpha PEP66 with socket A mod, and the Alpha PAL6035. I am not all that worried about price since I'll do my own research to find the best possible price out there I can get for the HSF I decide on, but I need to decide what to purchase. Any help is appreciated.

Im useing a alpha PEP 66 and it works great but if I were in your shoes and looking for one I would go with the Hedgehog Its all coper. and from the revues on it it works better then the alphas.

Hedgehog? Huh? never heard of that one. Is there a site you could point me to with either a review or someone selling it so I can check out the price comparison?

Ive never tried a Alpha so i cant really say, but i have a hedgehog now and it walks all over my fop32....

well, i love my alpha 6035, on a duron 700.

duron runs hot, about 20 deg. C over ambient at idle. that in itself means nothing...

The thing that is nice is that under full load, my temp goes up 1.5-2.5 C only, and thats with a quite 60mm sunon 22cfm fan. (less than .5 C variance from idle->load)

that being said, a HH would be nice to play with too. at some point, tho, it just doesnt matter enough to worry about. if it does, you should go to extreme cooling measures.

im working on a shroud to duct a 92mm fan into the 60mm^2 HS...just for fun

in short, the Alpha isnt the *BEST*. but its damned good.

I read a few of the reviews on the hedgehog and I can't say I'm all that impressed so far especially with that hefty price tag. In most cases it's on par with all the other HS's I have listed thus far. In rare testing cases it was better or worse which is why the phrase, "your milage may vary" comes to mind. I don't think I'll be getting the hedgehog. So far I've narrowed it a bit further and might go for the Alpha6035, the Fop38 or the Taisol CEK733092. These seem to be the best of the bunch and all perform the same on average. Of course I have yet to test any of them which is the reason why I was asking for opinions. Anyone have any reason out there as to why I should or shouldn't go along with either of these three? Speak now or forever hold your peace.

i just got a FOP38 a lil while ago and it works great, especially with the artic silver compound... my p!!! 550e @ 850 is running aroun 28 C ... not bad considering the price...

There's actually a Taisol that's supposed to come out soon that kicks everything one the market around. They forge the heatsink instead of extrude it to get denser metal and better conduction.

According to the temp sensor on socket a boards the taisol cooled within 1c of a fop38. Having owned both I can tell you that the taisol is obviously running hotter than the temp sensor indicates. It runs hotter but has had no impact on overclocking or stability
