I've been looking for a good router with good range for a while and I stumbled across a deal for a used Apple AirPort Extreme 6th Gen for around $135. I have a couple of mobile devices that I often transfer files to and from and support 802.11ac seems like an upgrade. Also I have an external desktop Samsung M3 hhd that I would like to hook up to the AirPort mainly for sharing, maybe, streaming. Basically I'd appreciate your feedback on whether it's a good deal for the price and if yes will the device fit my intended usage.

No feedback? I'd like to add that I don't have any Apple devices and would be using it with a couple of Android devices and a Windows laptop. I'm guessing it won't be too much of a problem since the settings should be accessible through the web interface.

We didn’t initially consider Apple’s Airport Extreme for our article, as it didn’t even make the top three on SmallNetBuilder’s AC1750 router benchmarks. However, feedback from the Apple crowd has convinced us to give Apple’s Airport Extreme the same shakedown that we gave our finalists.

The results? The router did well across all our benchmark tests, but its price-to-performance ratio didn’t blow away our top pick, nor our step-down pick. Even though the Airport Extreme was easy to set up and comes with a few Apple-exclusive features, the router’s high price, limited feature loadout compared to most other routers, and the fact that it doesn’t play very nicely with Windows computers makes it a poor value for the majority of users (Apple-enthusiasts included).

If you already own a lot of Apple products, want a dead-simple setup process, and are willing to pay top dollar for fewer features and less flexibility, the Apple Extreme might be for you. Otherwise, we’re just not that fired up about Apple’s wireless-ac offering.

For what you're describing the TP Link C7 seems like a much better pick. The APextreme is perfectly usable, but the TP Link C7 performs comparably for ~$90 vs. ~$135 for a used APExtreme.

No Web interface is definitely a deal breaker. Thanks for the heads up Mixolydian and for the recommendation Essence_of_war. The TP Link does seem like what I'm looking for
