That's just mean. :frown:

From your other thread, you had two 3870 cards in CF but one died, right? And you're trying to determine if you can RMA it or not. A single 3870 is kinda weak these days but it really depends on what games you play and what resolution your monitor runs.

In general, a 4850 is probably 40-50% faster than a 3870 while a 1GB 4870 is probably 70-80% faster. So a 1GB 4870 would be nearly as fast as your CF 3870 was (if not faster, in newer games, because of the larger memory buffer).

To put things into perspective, I had dual 2900 XT 512's in CF. They slot in just above 3870's in terms of speed.

I recently replaced both of them with a single 4850 512, and the biggest improvement I saw was minimum framerates. Avg and Max seem about equal, but overall the experience is much better.

In terms of raw specs, the 2900's have much more memory bandwidth (115 GB/s) but are heavily shader and texture limited.

me too
---my single 4870/512MB was probably 10-15% faster that 2900xt CF, overall

to the OP, what card got busted and why not RMA it?
