I'm all about free expression, but think about it from the radio station's point of view. Who do they report to? It sure as hell isn't you listeners... it's the advertisers. While I'm sure they don't mind getting great ratings, most products advertised on radio don't want to be associated with sex in church.

As it happens I heard that show (it was being replayed when I was on my way home at midnight on Saturday), and it was one of my two experiences listening to O&A. It was definitely a curiosity, as they followed the couples around the city having sex, but to me there was nothing even remotely funny about it, and they really made no effort to be clever or even joke about it at all. I just got the sense that they were relying on the "shocking" nature of the material in lieu of writing anything funny to say -outrageousness for outrageousness' sake.

Yesterday was my second (and last) attempt at listening to O&A - I heard the first 40 minutes of their show, which consisted of completely witless goofing on an employee they called "Spaz," complemented by playing the same dopey sound effects, over and over. There was just nothing even vaguely amusing in it - I did not crack a smile even once.

I have a hard time seeing how this is any great loss.

dude you prob didnt laugh because you dont know what the show is about yet... its been stated many times on air that you cant just tune in one day and expect to love it.. its like a family thing... you get to know the o n a cast.. and it grows on you till one day BAM your a complete fan.. people that tune in just to see the hype can go take a hike, o n a doesnt want you as a fickle fan anyways..

also there was a 2 page list of places to have sex.. yes a church was on there, but no one made anyone have sex there. It was by the couples own choice. And its funny how no one including the media mentioned who the f sponsored the show.. SAM ADAMS.. ala sex for sam.. jim cook was even there in the studio the whole time.. lame

i mean cmon, they(church) take more action when people have straight sex, than when their own priests molest children.. lame

Ahh yes the old Catholic Priest molesting children defense as if somehow that mitigates having a couple have sex in St Patricks Cathedral. The same organization that has been expressing outrage over this incident has been quite vocal about the cover ups of the sex scandals by the church hierarchy so that argument will not hold any water. The couple that performed the act have a court date in October for their part in the stunt but you cannot say the station and O&A were innocent bystanders. They set up a contest which technically violates the laws of New York no matter what public place the couple was having sex in. Further it violates specific FCC regulations which put the stations license in jeopardy. The fact that they chose St Patricks Cathedral accompanied by a station representative who then was on the air over a cell phone means the station and O&A were involved in the stunt. I doubt we will ever know now whether the list just specified "a church" or whether it identified St Patricks by name. I suspect it was the latter case though since they specifically said in the broadcast that they included famous landmarks on the list and St Patricks certainly qualifies for that designation.

you know what i find the absolute funniest about this thread? The same people saying "No one forced them to have sex in a church" are the same people whining about second hand smoke. While not exactly a similar comparison, it is valid. The same people who spew "live and let live" are the same ones protesting the nearby bar for allowing smokers to do what they want.

oh well.

I also cannot see how anyone even remotely likes Howard Stern, I personally think his show is the worst morning program that I have ever heard and refuse to listen to his garbage...he puts me to sleep and I really don't think anyone can be higher on themselves then he is.

With regards to O&A I am originally from and once again living in the Boston area and I used to listen to them when they were on Waaf all the time, they were good then but now for me at least it just isn't the same...they seem to be getting as annoying and booring as Stern.

But I also agree that they get fired for some lame ass reasons...saying a Mayor Died and people having sex in church? really..no one had a gun to those peoples heads and forced them to have sex there...and I agree the church is one to complain, what is it they say about people in glass houses? maybe if the preists could keep their pants on then they would have a point....and this is comming from someone who is a catholic and went to a jesuit high school.

Fined yes...fired no, at least they will be back...too bad they blew a 30million 3 year deal.

The thing is, from what I heard (which included about two hours of listening), they never even TRIED to be funny (other than the annoying, repetitive sound effects). Whether or not you like Stern, he and his crew are at least cracking jokes and one-liners. O&A seemed about as funny as a test pattern.

What I thought was funny about this whole situation was that Ken Stevens and Jeremy Coleman also received slaps on their wrist regarding this incident. I remember listening to the Don and Mike show many times and they would constantly indicate how much of an a$$ Ken Stevens was.

There was also an article in today's Washington Post regarding the firing: Washington Post: O & A Firing Article

If they don't come back, who will host The Homeless Shopping Spree during the holiday season? The show last year when all those drunk bums hit a mall on Long Island was hilarious!

i'm at work right now and boy am i missing these guys... they would make my last 3 hours of work fly each day. to those of you who think they aren't funny (who have made this decision based on listening to them once or twice), you've obviously haven't heard the good stuff. anthony's impressions, opie's twisted mind, and jim norton's (a funny version of arty lang) evil, sick jokes.

as much fun as it is listen to howard stern tell women to take off their clothes and have every person on his show suck up to him constantly, i'd have to go with o&a.

and another thing, to you people who complain about not being able to hear music. for god's sake, 94 wysp plays the same 10 songs ALL DAY LONG. there is absolutely no need for ANOTHER station that plays the 10 current rock hits.

Thats what almost everyone says when they first hear them.

People seem to always hate them when they are first brought on board but over time they listen more and more..

There must be a reason they were #1 in the country's hardest radio market (NYC) and syndicated nationwide..

Well, I guess that's why they are called rumors. It's not Opie and Anthony that are coming to Hartford, it's Bubba The Love Sponge. He just sounds like another in the long line of Howard Stern ripoffs/clones. *sigh*

Bubba is funny as hell! You WILL be hooked. He's made Lex and Terry his bitch in Jacksonville, and will continue to spread over the US..

He's very different from Stern. You will like it

In a church, while services were going on? Yeah, happens all the time *rolls eyes*

Frankly, anything less than them getting fired would have been outrageous. I hope they never find work again.

Hey just be glad it was two consenting adults and not the priest with an alter boy!

The Catholics just want priests to be the only ones having sex in church. Of course, thats with little boys instead of concenting adults...

Anyhow, they will be back. Im hoping Don gets them hired on WJFK in VA.
