"Up to" $2k in penalties/fees in the 2013 bill is a trivial sum and not nearly enough restitution for those who broke our immigration laws. Those who immigrated legally paid way more than that. Sorry, but any "comprehensive immigration bill" needs to include significantly large penalties for those who came/stayed here illegally. At a bare minimum the penalties for each and every illegal immigrant for a "comprehensive immigration bill" to even be considered would need to be: (A) no citizenship, ever - you can have a permanent resident card, but citizenship is always and forever reserved for those who come legally, and (B) monetary penalties per illegal immigrant to be no less than the median costs for a family to complete the legal immigration process, and those funds would be made available to those legal immigrants still struggling with beginning their lives in the U.S.
No "free" amnesty for illegals. Not now, not ever.
