I think that the worse the U.S. economy gets, the more we should blame illegals.

Also, we should just assume that illegals are a net drain on the U.S. economy, because if we give credence to studies that show otherwise - or if we reserve judgment until more information is available - it will be much more difficult to point the finger.

Actually a large reason for the Berlin Wall WAS to keep people out. The westerners would go into East Berlin and buy up all the cheap subsidized food leaving nothing for East Berliners. There was also the problem of the westerners spreading their ideas of freedom to the East.

I'm not sure what your point is?

I'm very familiar with the Berlin wall. I lived there for two years back when the wall was up, crossed it many times. That wall was extremely effective, but I'm not proposing a wall exactly like that one. I don't believe we need lethal deterents.

As I noted above, I lived in Berlin for two years (mid-to late 80's).

We were free to travel to Eastern Berlin anytime we wished. Even the US military stationed there.

They liked our money. They made us exchange something like a 100 DMark for 100 eastern marks (the real exchange rate was 14 to 1).

Even so, their prices were cheap. But the food and everything else sucked. Even their beer was bad. I was never able to spend all my money (it was forbidden to leave with any), I just gave what was left over away.

That was the 1980s when the disparity in wealth between the two sides of the city were extreme. Starting out West Berlin was richer but not by as much and the quality of the products were fairly similar. The goods may not have been as good of quality but because the prices were so much cheaper, the westerners came over and essentially robbed them of their subsidized goods.
