All China wants is Taiwan, and I wish our treaty with them would end.

We give China Taiwan, they give us peace and unification on the Korean penninsula.

Win-win.

Except for the tiny detail of the two major wars it would start, of course.

What on earth, Hayabsusa, gave you the idea that I delimited my comments to only the USA?

What on earth LL gives you the idea that what I said only applies to the USA? Iraq is the latest and greatest, not the only. Political leaders routinely take information and bend it to suit their needs. That does not mean that mistakes aren't made because heaven knows they are, however in today's world the best and most correct advice becomes mutated into a monster at the whim of politicians.

Wait wait wait - you think trading Taiwan for NK is a win? How is losing diversity in our electronics supply chain while gaining an indoctrinated, under educated and malnourished population a win-win?

Re-unification with north korea would screw over the south for decades. I guess that would be one way to stop their economic growth/threat. :hmm:

China doesn't CARE about Taiwan anymore. The only reason they still flip out whenever any talks of independence is mentioned is only to save face because they're too proud.

And South Korea is just waiting for north korea to collapse on its own. No need to force a war when it'll happen in the next 10-20 years on its own.

Getting back to the original scenario, why is there almost no Chinese countermeasures taken into account? The whole article reads of US superiority. I guess China will just say "O noes" while the US attacks...

I've put more effort into war plans for an RTS game.

What makes you think they "want" any kind of war with us? That makes no sense.

They don't, they want to be as prosperous as us without all the "freedom" and non-sense that comes along with it. They're doing a pretty good job so far, though I can't see the communist party maintaining the status quo indefinitely. Changes will come in the future for the betterment of both our peoples. We need to do more to work to lift both of us up instead of butting heads so much.

Also, cyberwar. It's already started, the first shots have been fired.

Huh? There would be no war.

Taiwan is only independant because we back them. NK is only a backwards 15th century regime because China backs them.

It is all a cold-war proxy game that is getting old.

Huh? There would be no war.

Yes, there absolutely would be. Do you think Taiwan would just say "Sure, the US told us we have to be annexed by China, so we'll just happily go along!"? Do you think that North Korea will just open up the gates and barbed wire fences and welcome the South Koreans in to take over the government?

Good Lord people -- think!

We can agree to disagree. China's business model, in its current form, will implode. Theyve got SERIOUS environmental issues, workers rights issues, and generally lack of any regulation whatsoever. For these reasons, unless China makes some DRASTIC changes, and soon, their rise to prosperity will crash. And hard.

-just sayin

Republic of China (Taiwan) was our ally for a long time. Pretty lame way to throw them under the bus when they are down.
